When the lights dimmed and the fog started, before any of the music itself, I began shrieking with noises that made my friends deeply concerned. I've never been this happy to hear AFI before. Just started banging the drum beat on my friend's couch and failing to explain in any way what was happening. One of the most primal mark-out moments of my life.

I said it in the live thread, but this moment made me feel all tingly in excitement. I felt like I’d been transported back to the early 2000’s.

Like I said in another thread, I never watched a lot of non-WWE stuff back in the past, so I don’t have the emotional attachment to this that most everyone else has.
That said, I’m happy because you guys were happy with it. Wrestling history is a rich tapestry that you can draw from at any time, why not use it for something like this?

Even without the emotional attachment, Punk showing up with that music, that attire, and that expression resulted in an immediate tonal shift that I think any wrestling fan would appreciate, regardless of whether or not you know the history.

I wasn't huge into the landscape outside of WWE/TNA for a long while growing up but I had always heard people saying they wanted Punk to get Miseria Cantare back, and combining that with the immediate tone-setting of him coming out to that tonight made it even more special.

The volume was a little low on my end, so I couldn't tell what was playing at first, until I heard the drums and I was just like "you've gotta be f***ing kidding me". Then Punk walks out in full ROH gear and it was like 2003 all over again. Even the look he had on his face, you could tell he was channeling something special. I do wish the crowd had responded a little more, as the reaction wasn't as loud as I would've expected from that kind of callback. But just a fantastic moment from a night full of fantastic moments. The average AEW fan has probably barely seen any ROH, and I can't imagine that skews any more in the direction of familiarity with an Orlando crowd. You know, it's not Chicago or the Northeast. I wasn't expecting any reaction at all.

I marked out so much man, holy shit. Started pounding the couch in rhythm with it. I was 16 again, watching ROH on my PlayStation on a DVD my cousin from America gave me.
Sometimes I feel AEW is catered to me specifically lol

I liked how there was no titantron playing. It was just lights behind him in a small area, like in an indy show.

Two things.
1) When I was a teenager my mom left me. She just abandoned me one day when I was fifteen. I never knew my father. Well, there isn't a ton of support for a fifteen year old dude since once you're sixteen you're basically out of the system. So I was struggling through high school, paying 600 dollars a month to rent a tarped off corner of a room from a friends family and sleeping on an old hospital bed. GOD did I need CM Punk back then. I remember watching my ROH tapes, and hearing him spit at Raven "Things aren't supposed to be this way!" was burned into my brain because of how fundamentally unfair things were back then. Luckily, a completely different friends family took me in. They taught me how things were supposed to go and I made it out. My life is stable now. When CM Punk came out to that music, in THAT gear, holy shit man I lost my mind. I've never been more behind a wrestler.
2) For anyone going "Well, most of the fans didn't get it." Yeah! Absolutely! But that's what's cool about it, because now the fans who DO know get to share it with them and people get a sense of how broad wrestling is outside of whats on their TV. They realize the indy stuff matters and hopefully the next generation gets supported that much more. Wrestling has this thing where people go "Oh, well if the mainstream crowd doesn't get it we shouldn't do it." but I think that's backwards. You bring the rich history of the characters TO the mainstream and you tell them why they should care. You know, nobody gave a shit about Iron Man at the start of the MCU but Marvel brought the right parts to us and made him matter.

It was so awesome to see got back to this, not only his ROH day attire but the same shorts colors he wore against his Dog collar match with Raven.

I loved it, bit disappointed in the crowd reaction though as they seemed almost deathly silent for a good while there.
