I'm reminded often that stuff I enjoy is considered old. Like how various bands I loved in high school are now being played on oldies/classic rock stations.
Got told a long time about by the great Dirty Doug Wyzer "you are old when you give up on top 40 music and start choosing your breakfast cereal by how good it is for you and not by which one has the best toy in the box." So according to Doug I have been old since I was 16 or 17.

At the gym today they were playing Yeah! By Usher, Lil Jon, and Ludacris while the main class worked out.
Asked my trainer if she was familiar with the song, said she thinks she remember hearing it as a kid.
I’m 36 which I don’t think is that old for life, but I’ve gotta come to grips with the next generation not really getting the stuff that was popular my teenage and early 20s years.

I'm thankful for every time a trainer feels like playing Busta Rhymes instead of off-beat autotunes. I'm content in not understanding how people can like the latter, that's just where pop music moved to. But noone can properly train to what constantly changes rhythms.

My favorite 90's music. It blows my mind that the 90's are as far away from now as the 60's were when it was the 90's. I rarely listen to the actual radio, but one day I decided to flip around the stations and see what was playing. The golden oldies station when I was a kid now plays Green Day. I remember the first time I heard Green Day on the "Classic Rock" radio station, I never felt more ancient in my entire life. And that was like ten years ago.

The pop punk movement during the turn of the millennium. Their music were like product placements to every teen comedy film that was out during that late 90s/early 2000s era. From Blink 182, The Offspring, & Sum 41 to Lit, Bowling for Soup, & Good Charlotte, the list goes on. Still sounds fresh then as it does now IMO.

I've recently heard "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Ironic" on a station that mostly plays songs from the 70's and 80's... Yeah, well, read an old thread of mine. EDITED TO ADD* Seriously, am I the only one here who actually does the math and acknowledges how old things are? I feel like I am an outlier in this whole "I feel so old" trend and mentality that seems to be going around. I like to consider myself a member of the "do the math" crowd, but I'm not gonna lie, it is jarring when my local radio station is doing "battle of the old school" and instead of The Whispers versus The Stylistics or Marvin Gaye versus Barry White, they're doing Toni Braxton versus Mariah Carey.

I will note that back in the mid-2000s (2005, to be exact), I wasn't too keen on the rap of those days. I remember listening to rap from the 1990s more, which was considered "old school" at the time. It's weird, because during the first half of the 2000s, people felt that the 1990s weren't much different than those days. For example, I was listening to Onyx, and their first two albums were about a decade old up to that point while Shut 'Em Down was only about seven years old. Keep this in mind, this was only during the 2000s.

Knowing how long ago something happened and feeling old about the passage of time are two different things of course.
Every generation has that one huge movie zeitgeist moment. 70s kids had Star Wars. Nowadays, there's Marvel. In 1993, it was Jurassic Park. Seminal experience.
Now, I know that was 29 years ago, and I'm no longer 7 years old.
But the wow factor comes from realising that Jeff Goldblum today is older than Richard Attenborough was when he filmed the first Jurassic Park film.

I remember vividly when my mom woke me up when 9/11 happened. Recently I studied with people who weren't even born then. "Caesuras" feel especially old with people not having lived through'em. 9/11 for them is like Pearl Harbor for me/us. I remember being really eager as a kid to talk to my grandparents about that when I first learned about it.

I haven't quite adjusted to the new decade yet, two years on.
It still gives me pause when I realise the early 2000s was 20 years ago, the early 90s was 30 years ago etc.

It still kinda blows my mind that Sonic Adventure 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, WWE Day of Reckoning, Call of Duty 4, Super Mario Galaxy, and Zelda: Twilight Princess are now "old school games".
I'm not getting older, I've just lost track of time.
...Also, I'm definitely getting older.

Me.
But I’m quickly approaching the day when someone starts work who wasn’t even born yet when I started working there.
It’s either already happened or will very, very shortly.

I was talking to a woman and her daughter who looked to be in her early twenties and during the conversation I brought up that one of my first memories was my mother telling me that Nixon had resigned. The mother told me that Watergate was before her time.
