I don't know why.
The real life Terry Bollea is.. problematic, and an asshole. He didn't do anything different from the standard "Hulkster" routine. It was absolutely goofy as shit.
But I f***ing loved every second of it. Maybe it was the throwback white meat babyface act. Maybe it was the absurdity of the whole angle of Vince trying to prove it was Hogan and contorting his face into expressions I didn't think were possible outside of cartoons when he couldn't do it.
Anyone else look back on the Mr. America angle fondly?

I generally like the face is fired and new "mysterious" man in a mask debuts angle.
Like Mr. America, the Midnight Rider, Charlie Brown from outta town.
Though they really live and die off of how well their heel counterparts play it off.

It was goofy fun. And it was fine as long as he was working on his own with Vince and Piper. It was also an ok way to debut Zack Gowan. Zach should have never been on a real contract anyway, just a short term deal.

The lie detector segment remains one of the funniest things they have ever done just because this was during a time when it was Vince at his most uunhinged....between this , fighting his own daughter , making out with sable ever week , telling Paul Heyman how he wants the Undertakers wife kidnapped and raped by a motorcycle gang , wrestling "god" etc.
Idk how much coke or whatever he was doing but dude was completely off the rails.

This angle is exactly why I’m sad as hell they rushed the Cena/Nexus angle because we totally needed a Juan Cena run on the main roster driving Wade crazy.

They should have made Mr. America the new Doink. Just put people in it every once in a while. They should have resurrected it for John Cena when he was fired from The Nexus. Hell they should have let a woman play it. Just get f***ing ridiculous with it.

When it was happening I may have thought “this is dumb and a waste of Hogan”. Looking back, a lot of it stupid enjoyable fun. I mean, just watch the lie detector segment lol
I also was eating these delicious carne asada tacos at the time (with a memorable green hot sauce) that my child fatass always associated with this angle.

I thought it was fun. I’ve always had a soft spot for this type of angle. Everyone is in on the joke accept the heel and it’s always fun to see the desperately try to expose the masked man and it usually works.

I remember hating the start of this angle (I was 12 and never liked Hogan) but found myself loving it as it went on.
The lie detector test is one of the funniest wrestling segments ever

It was fun at the time, I got to see the last show that Mr.America was on at MSG. He worked the tag match with Brock/Angle vs. Shelton/Haas/Big Show.
After the show went off the air, he took his mask off and posed with Brock for a few minutes.

I absolutely loved it, and don't understand why its considered bad.
This is WWE "comedy" actually working.
The costume was great, and it was a great way to keep Hogan on tv without constantly reminding the audience how old he looked at the time.
And storyline wise, it all made sense, including his firing caused by Hogan legit leaving the company.

It was the most entertaining I've ever found Hogan (that whole run really) and just the sort of goofy nonsense I like in my wrestling.
The kayfabe made no sense though iirc, Steph signed him to become a big deal fairly quick either without seeing him or without realising it was Hogan, either way she's an idiot.
