Inspired by the AJ-Edge underwhelmed thread.
When I think of Austin, pretty much all of his Mania matches were good to great bar the sub par Scott Hall one.
To be fair, Hogan had a strong run at Mania too. Even ended with the Vince match which was also good. I would say most of Hulks mania matches are good.
Then you have Triple H who has a very spotty Mania record (I'm not talking wins losses but match quality) with some stinkers.
Brock has had a number of not great Mania matches.
I always felt underwhelmed by Jericho at Mania.
Others include Edge, Reigns etc.
Who is the most inconsistent Mania performer who sometimes underperforms at Mania?

I'm a huge fan, but Orton is pretty hit-and-miss at Mania.

Orton is a big one.
On the women's side, Charlotte.

I'm a huge fan, but Orton is pretty hit-and-miss at Mania. Orton's career is really interesting like that. He's got some feuds/matches that sound like A+ ideas on paper but were terrible. Most of them involving Hall of Fame level talent. And he's got a bunch of feuds/matches that looks like garbage/filler on paper but were amazing.

I have to echo the others who say Orton. His entire career has been that way actually. When he’s on, he’s REALLY on. When he‘a not, he’s super dull and boring.
For the women, definitely Charlotte.

Undertaker, largely due to the sheer amount of matches.
Some of the best ever wm matches against the likes of HBK, HHH, RKO and many others that don't go by three letter acronyms. Some of the worst against Giant Gonzalez, Reigns and The Big Bossman. Many more somewhere in the middle, he uses the entire star scale.

Undertaker is the king of this, largely thanks to having to work with some immobile lumps early in his career.

Has Cena ever had an amazing mania match? Besides firefly funhouse?

I think Jericho has enough good Mania matches not be picked.
I'd say Orton and Cena are for picks, but I'll pick Cena as I don't think any of his Mania matches were really absolute classics and Orton at least has Mania XXX

Undertaker goes from some of the best WM matches to some of the worst so often that I gotta say him. The amount and the range in which the quality jumps can't be compared to. If anything, the fact he's got classic matches just throws the consistency off because he's had some trash fires.

Going back a ways but for someone who was one of the better workers at the time Ted Dibiase really wasn't that good at Wrestlemania. His WM 4 title tournament matches were fine but his V match with Beefcake was underwhelming, Jake at VI was solid but had a disappointing finish, Virgil with VII was nothing as they wanted the payoff to that to be at Summerslam instead of buried towards the end of a 14 match card, and then Money Inc.'s matches with Natural Disasters and Mega Mania at VIII and IX were both bad.
Even as someone who is super sick of her and wants her to go away I don't get why Charlotte is being brought up. Only really stinker she's maybe had was maybe this year. The four way at 33 was forgettable but inoffensive and the 35 three way with Becky and Ronda while disappointing and in front of a burnt out crowd, wasn't a bad match by any means. Triple threat with Sasha and Becky and the Asuka and Rhea matches were all really good. Granted she probably should've lost all of those but the work in them was very good. And even if the results weren't the right call then Charlotte would have no WM wins which takes away from when someone actually beats her. Only problem is the only person who has ever pinned her is Bayley. She lost at 35 too but Ronda ate the pin.

HBK at Mania 23 is probably his best I think. The Triple threat with HHH & Orton a year later is also very good. Cena is definitely more Mr.Summerslam He actually got to face all his greatest rivals there (Edge, Punk, Styles, Lesnar). The 3 and a half years in the making dream match with Batista was also done at Summerslam first rather than Wrestlemania. The passing of the torch match with Bryan too. He was their biggest draw but it seemed like a lot of the time they put more effort into what the old timers Undertaker/HBK/HHH would be doing at Wrestlemania then Cena got the pick of whatever opponents were left. It's almost inexcusable some of the lackluster Wrestlemania matches he got and some of the ones they never booked despite having years to do so. Like that triple threat in 2009, they tried to make the most of it and it had a memorable finish but Cena should have been in a way bigger match than that for for the 25th Wrestlemania. Cena/Undertaker would have been one of the biggest matches ever if it happened before the streak ended. Cena/Roman never happened until Cena was already a part-timer and it was on a B PPV. Cena/Hardy in 08/09 could've been massive and the generational battle of the babyfaces like we got at Wrestlemania 6 and 17. Imagine his Wrestlemania history was actually something like: 2004 - Big Show 2005 - JBL 2006 - Edge 2007 - HHH/HBK 2008 - Orton 2009 - Hardy 2010 - Batista 2011 - Punk 2012 - Rock 2013 - Undertaker 2014 - Wyatt 2015 - Bryan 2016 - Roman 2017 - Styles/Ambrose 2018 - Braun 2019 - Angle 2020 - Goldberg (as a match this one would technically suck, but spectacle wise a 5 minute sprint could've been great if there was a crowd)

Not getting that Mania match with Taker around 09/10/11 when Taker could still go is a bit of a shame for Cena. I was sure he was getting it at Mania 26 but I think HBK wanting to retire changed their plans.
Looking at Cena’s Summerslam history…
04: v Booker….meh 05: v Jericho….pretty good 06: v Edge…decent but don’t think it’s their best match together 07: Orton…ok but the buildup ruined the match 08: Batista…. Pretty good 09: Orton…pretty awful 10: Nexus….moving on 11: CM Punk…again good but not on the level of the MITB match, crap finish 12: CM Punk & Big Show…Ok but forgettable 13: Daniel Bryan….Now we are talking. This is great 14: Lesnar….yep classic and memorable 15: Seth Rollins…Great match 16: AJ Styles…another great match….Cena having quite the run at this point 17: Corbin….forgettable 21: Roman Reigns…Ok but could have been better
There is a case for it on that 2013-2016 run of matches definitely. He’s certainly had a great run of opponent’s.

If anything, the fact he's got classic matches just throws the consistency off because he's had some trash fires. But I feel that is more due to the variety of his opponents than Taker's perfomance. I feel like Taker is consistently good, he never was a ring general that is going to carry some of the worse opponents
