They really changed Gonzalez to Rodriquez. Wow. as part of her new persona she now has front muscles instead of back muscles

Im surprised they didn't change his name and tried to tell us he was a different person from the guy who came up being part of Zelina's group of misfits I still think it's dumb they treat these callups essentially like new people even with name changes a lot of the time. Doudrop's was downright insulting. Especially when Eva Marie turned on Doudrop and then got cut, and Doudrop was like "But yknow what? I'm still gonna call myself this", the thing the heel called her to be condescending because "No one would know her actual name", how nice, how fulfilling it must be to get invested in NXT when they do shit like that... Doudrop at least was NXT UK. Which is Network only so only the hardcore fans get to see it. They may dislike a wrestlers name and character being changed but they get it. But NXT proper is a USA show. They want ratings which means they want people to watch it and get invested in it. But then you watch these wrestlers for awhile and when they get called up they get new names and characters telling you what yoh watched didnt matter. Not a good way to convince people to get invested.

I quite like Marcel’s new name, Ludwig is a cool name. I saw on Twitter that if Walter’s name had always been Gunther and they’d changed it to Walter fans would hate it. That put it into perspective for me and I’m fine with Gunther as his name.

Like, whatever, their company, their rules and they don't really need my money but it felt like more than most, Walter was gift-wrapped for WWE and they sort of chipped away at him for no real reason which is a bigger issue than just the name.

I'd be more fine with it if they weren't trying to trademark the name of a Nazi general so it taints the whole thing but eh, different strokes.

Honestly I feel like Gunther sounds 800,000 more times lamer than WALTER did when I first heard it because of that "th" in the middle. It makes it land a lot weaker.

That put it into perspective for me and I’m fine with Gunther as his name. Yeah, there’s a lot of it that’s the names themselves, but there’s a fair bit that’s like… Everyone has invested so much time, fans and the company alike, into people in a particular fashion, and then it’s like “OK, we’re starting from scratch” and people are like “WTF?”. Like, Pete Dunne had had close to 100 televised matches, including on two of the big four PPVs, before being repackaged as an entirely new character within a handful of days. They seem to want NXT to be all ways possible. They want it to be a show that can draw in people to arenas on Big 4 weekends and attract TV ratings worldwide, but also be essentially non-canon so they can pluck people to fill in arbitrary roles on RAW or SmackDown at a moment’s notice, like it’s 2003 OVW and only one state in the US actually gets it.

For the life of me, I can’t get a read on where WWE stands on the whole Nazi thing anymore. Like, at the same time, they fired a guy for a 10 year old candid bathroom photo of him doing the moustache and the salute, yet they apparently want a shoot Austrian to BE one on TV?

I think it was more ignorance than intention which absolutely doesn't excuse it since, like, they're a billion-dollar company that can hire people to look this stuff up and see whether it's ok or not. It's not mega different from when WCW decided to call Robert Swanson "The Final Solution" in 1996 without realizing the terrible connotations that had since, again, backed by billion-dollar company that'd likely have the resources to know that. Or even at least one Jewish person on staff.

So for those keeping score at home, with Ciampa's callup, this means the three longest tenured performers (NXT TV wise) are now: Roderick Strong, Dakota Kai, and Io Shirai. All of whom have spent 4+ years in NXT.

All of whom have spent 4+ years in NXT. Some interesting notes about these three. Roderick Strong has been there the longest having debuted on NXT television in October 2016. He recently did a short run in NXT UK and lost to Dragunov last week, seemingly ending the feud as post show they has an exclusive with Jordan Devlin watching the match to hint he's reigniting his feud with Dragunov. Strong had 3 dark matches this year and LOST all 3. He lost his Main Event match to T-BAR. His only win this year on any brand was versus Wolfgang on NXT UK to set up the Dragunov match. Io Shirai has been on WWE television since August 2018 when she debuted in the Second Mae Young Classic. She has been on NXT the entire time. This year she had 2 dark matches. The first in January she defeated Dakota Kai. The second in February she lost to Raquel Gonzalez. If Fightful is accurate there is no interest in calling her up to the main roster. She has expressed interest in a main roster run in the past. Her next feud after taking the fall to Mandy in the Women's Title Match at S&D has not yet been revealed. Dakota Kai has been with WWE since 2017. She worked a match as Evie vs Nia Jax in 2015. In 2017 she did the house show loop for some time until the First Mae Young Classic got her on onscreen. She made her formal NXT television debut January 2018 and has been a regular since. Kai lost a match on Main Event in August and had a number of dark matches in the summer. She didn't get called-up in the draft as rumored. She did 2 dark matches in November 2021. This year she did 1 dark match losing to Io Shirai. They seem to be investing in her this year, resulting in a title match vs Mandy tomorrow. Kai has said in the past she will do her best to contribute to whatever brand she's on. So you got someone who is coasting in Strong. Someone in Io who wants to get a main roster run but there seems no interest. Lastly someone in Dakota who seems eager for whatever challenge. ...and then there were three OGs left standing.

I wonder and dread what Ciampa's new name will be.
Vince: "What is this name? Thomas-oh Cee-ampa? That name sucks. You're...you're Rick Johnson! Yeah. Rick Johnson. Heh-heh. Johnson."

Makes me wonder with this being Io's fifth year if this is the final year of her contract or if she signed any sort of extension because if it is the final year of her contract it is gonna get real interesting because and I said it before every single company is gonna be in a massive bidding war over her. And assuming both that it is true and that she has gotten word WWE has no interest in calling her up to the main roster then it makes her choice to leave for another company so much easier.
