I think PWG's deliberate decision to not book women - especially after the pandemic hiatus - affected the interest of a chunk of their fans.

If you're owned by a billionaire you're not an Indy. With that criteria I gotta give it to GCW.

GCW is certainly the biggest typical indie, in that they operate similarly to the rest of the indie scene. Very little in the way of contracts (Gage being the exception that proves the rule), they are exclusively streaming their shows online (the IWTV family indies offer physical copies through Smart Mark Video, but it's certainly not the primary way of viewing promotions on their service), and their live gates are incredibly hot, selling out venues coast-to-coast and The Collective is such a huge force every Mania weekend and the 2020 edition even proved it could draw away from Mania.
It's hard to compare the other two promotions mentioned in this thread because they just don't operate the same way, but you can certainly compare them to the rest of the indie landscape and it's clear they are on top, with only Beyond Wrestling coming to mind as being comparable in those metrics, but even they are more regional in their success. I can't think of any other indie that could draw what GCW does in Atlantic City or New York, as well as Los Angeles or San Francisco like they did last weekend. I could see PWG drawing a decent gate if they want to run on the East Coast based off their name recognition, but I highly doubt Super Dragon would ever run outside of Cali.

I'd say GCW, PWG, and MLW are the upper tier, NWA's a middle tier along with maybe AIW, CZW, CWFH, and Warrior Wrestling?
What the f*** happened to Beyond Wrestling? It felt like they were really catching fire before the pandemic with Uncharted Territory and such, and I guess they're still going but their momentum stalled out, I'd put them in the middle tier
One to keep an eye on would be DPW, they've done some fun shit so far.
Man remember when CHIKARA felt like they were in the top 3 Indies of the entire world at one point? Good times, gooooood times...

Man remember when CHIKARA felt like they were in the top 3 Indies of the entire world at one point? Good times, gooooood times... I’m curious about what happened to Beyond too. I’ve been paying a lot less attention to indie wrestling as a whole the last few years, but not that long ago Beyond had a higher profile than GCW. They even got called the PWG of the East Coast every now and then. Beyond is still primarily based in MA. I know they had to cancel/postpone some shows due to the pandemic. Even when they resumed due to MA being one of the more restrictive Covid-19 states they had to put their early returning shows all the way in New Jersey. But I guess other indies did similar things. Anyway, I’m glad Beyond was responsible and not trying to do things too early again as Covid was surging. I’m sure it put a good dent in their finances. I’m sure there was more to Beyond falling off than that though. Like I said Covid didn’t just impact Beyond.
