I haven't seen any of the latest season myself, but even MeBlogWriteGood is impressed by the show taking chances again. I want to think the last few years have made them rethink how they do their parodies. The Parasite one in particular was so piss poor mainly because it felt so forced to cram too much in and not have a strong plot built around the plot of the movie and go from there.

Much like that Sideshow Bob rake gag, The Simpsons have gone on for so long that they've circled around into being funny again.

The It parody and the Death Note homage were done so well because they didn’t just go “hey, we’re spoofing this thing, get it?”, and actually worked around the source material and give things an appropriate Simpsons-style twist.

I'm sorry but that It parody was awful. It had no funny jokes

Watched Not It and the recent treehouse of horror on internet buzz. Enjoyed both. It was low on jokes but high on atmosphere. It even had a jump scare which got me, a horror writer!
Loved the Death Note take. So lovingly done. Could have done with more time.
The Westworld one was good too. "You're something more valuable than human, intellectual property."
I was impressed. I'm not going to compare it to 90s Simpsons because that's unfair and unreachable. But in terms of modern TV, yeah that was a clear upgrade.

This week's episode was fine. Another decent Bart/Skinner dynamic episode, with you average plot of someone going mad with power and having to be talked down. The Roblox stuff and how it was implemented was solid, and the ending with Flanders finding Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie was genuinely disturbing.

They've brought back Jacque, all the way from the first season 33 years ago.

I haven't seen all of the current season (they're aired a few weeks behind here and I don't go out of my way to catch them) but I do think the show has improved.
I don't think the show is particularly funny still, especially compared to its best seasons, but the episodes are way more interesting than during the worst seasons. I enjoy the stories that are being told and what they're doing with them. It's more like a light-hearted family drama these days than a sitcom/straight-up comedy.
I don't think the Simpsons will ever hit that golden period of interesting scenarios and genuinely funny gags again. But the scenarios and the stories are much better than they have been and that's how the show has improved, IMO. The more recent episodes don't make me hate almost every character, as some of the worst episodes did.

Way back in the day, Sam Simon used to drill into the writers that no matter what antics the characters got up to, ultimately the Simpsons are a family that loves each other. I think after years of a vibe that was more akin to Family Guy/South Park, the Simpsons has finally returned to that original feeling.

Even Disney is doing it, what with how The Proud Family is portrayed now

It’s surprisingly wholesome without being obnoxious about it

On this era of experimental episodes, I really want to see them adapt the arcade game into a plot.

It’s surprisingly wholesome without being obnoxious about it Bob and Linda are probably the only parents I’ve ever seen on TV that fully support their kids, all the time. Sometimes they will gently explain or say not to do something, but the kids do it anyway and Linda and Bob are always there supporting them or actively joining in.

This Sunday's episode was probably the best Marge episode ever. A great deconstruction of her character as she deals with the fear of eventual empty nest syndrome.

This year's Treehouse with Sideshow Bob was pretty dark.

This year's Treehouse with Sideshow Bob was pretty dark. The NFT short was whatever, but that Seven homage with Lisa and Sideshow Bob was gruesome as f***.

THOH was really violent, but it didn't really blow my mind.
Liked the Snowpiercer homage in the first segment.
