1985- Hogan & Nikolai Volkoff is an incredible brawl & exactly what a wrestling company wants to feature on a network special. Hogan was completely over, Volkoff was the perfect foil. SNME was magic.

Man... how good was this show? There's always one great match, and awesome promos. The 80's ones also are just... AWESOME! Hogan is such a mega star. What's everyone else's thoughts on SNME? I'm glad you posted this, because I feel the same way after watching all the early episodes on Peacock. Still felt the same as it did when I watched as a kid in the 8o's.

Are they using the SNME name as branding for house shows now? In Canada, there's an event October 1st labelled as such. Also an event the next night labelled as "Sunday Stunner".

Yeah, it’s a house show branding for Regina. I believe they’ve got some coming up in the US as well. I think the Canadian shows are dual branded house shows but I could be wrong, I know they’re doing a loop of Winnipeg for SDL, Regina and Saskatoon house shows and Raw in Edmonton

The Main Event on Fridays was just as good.
That’s the first wrestling show I remember with Macho Man turning on Hogan. That shit was wild.

Some of the best tag team matches if the 80s and early 90s happened on that show. Demolition vs Tully and Arn

I would recommend Macho Man vs Bret Hart from November 1987. Might just be the best pure wrestling match that ever happened on SNME. And it’s a show that really loved to put the spotlight on tag team wrestling. Some of the best tag team matches if the 80s and early 90s happened on that show. Was coming in this thread to shout this match out. Its forever 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

One thing that I read about is that on the syndicated shows in most markets, WWE would just say something like: “Theres something special next week. Check your local listings.” They wouldn’t mention the matches and the shows name because back than you didn’t promote ANYTHING on another network. Other markets where the shows would air on the same station as SNME, they would promote the show and matches. One thing I remember is that in the summer of 1997 on Raw, they actually promoted events on Saturday in the late summer as SNME. Anyone remember that? They wouldn't mention SNME or NBC by name, but they always advertised the card. Here's Vince plugging the October 1990 SNME on that day's Superstars episode: youtu.be/sY6yzBpFxWY?t=2531For the two Fox episodes of SNME, they did advertise it on Superstars/Challenge by name and as airing "tonight" rather than "this weekend." They also would produce an alternate version of Challenge for markets where it aired on Sunday. On the Sunday version, they would talk about what happened on SNME instead of advertising it. I started watching around the build to WM6 but I would probably best be described as a casual fan then. When this October 13th episode aired I was fully invested and watching every week. I was also under the impression that everything I saw on TV was airing live.🤦♂️ So that Saturday when Vince was promoting the October 13th SNME, AND they were also advertising a house show in my local market at the Cow Palace on the exact same night I was totally confused. Why were they advertising both Hogan and Tugboat vs Rhythm and Blues and also advertising Hogan and Tugboat vs Dino Bravo and Earthquake on the same night at the Cow Palace? I wasn't sure what I was going to see or where it was going to air from but I was gonna watch either way. This was the first time I discovered that most things I watched might actually be prerecorded in advance.🤯 A few months later I would discover the Apter Mags and Kayfabe was ruined forever for me when I discovered that my suspicions were true and everything I was watching was taped weeks, if not months in advance lol.

I was not around for the OG Saturday Night's Main Event but was right on time for the mid 2000s revival so my memories of it are pretty much cursed forever. The Jenny McCarthy episode is probably one of the worst things WWE's ever done. I know for a fact I watched this but I have zero memory of what you're referring to. I might have blocked it out because I find Jenny McCarthy to be one of the most annoying people on the planet. Can you please refresh my memory as to what you're talking about here?

I only started watching in 1990 so I only have memories of the last year or so, but it was still a big deal. One of the first wrestling shows I watched was the Feb 1990 Main Event special. You started watching around the exact same time I did. My first memory of watching wrestling is that episode of SNME and specifically the Warrior / Hogan face off from that show.

Funnily enough, my first proper memory of SNME is the previous one to this, where the Megapowers were formed. Honky hits Savage with the guitar while the Hart Fountain held him in place, Honky throws Elizabeth to the ground and she runs to the back to get Hogan, he comes and helps Savage and together they clear the ring, Savage offers a hand to Hogan...just perfect. I’m smiling at the memory as I type this; I was 12 years old and thought it was one of the most exciting things I’d ever seen. Good times.

I was too young to watch the original run of SNME, and while the brief revival was lacking, I loved the look of the arena, and there was definitely an excitement in the air around it.

I will say, that as good as those shows are on Peacock, those 1985-86 shows need to be seen in their original form if possible. They're out there if you look for them. It's just a totally different experience when you actually get to hear Hogan come out to Eye of the Tiger or JYD come out to Another One Bites the Dust. Not to mention Obsession as the theme song.

The whole show was to promote the anti-vax org that Jenny McCarthy was attached to. There were literally bits in between matches of her pleading with you not to vaccinate your kids, which is something I wish I was making up so badly.

I enjoyed Hogan’s title defense vs. Bob Orton Jr. from May 1987. Also, George Steele’s crush on Miss Elizabeth storyline, “ELIZABETH! NIICE!!!”
