The problems with the name changes for me aren't the names itself it's the fact that we've seen these people on their OWN television programming continuously for years and on top of that even recently. It's not even like it's someone coming from another company or them explaining why their names and/or gimmick has changed. Like when Jacques Rougeau came back after a year as The Mountie they explained in his year away that he had trained to become a Mountie to learn the tactics they use to help him in the ring. When One Man Gang became Akeem they did a vignette with a witchcraft ceremony to explain the transformation. Were they silly? Yes but at least it was something and they were making the effort to explain to the audience why these guys were someone else now.
However now they've started doing stuff where literally one week he's Pete Dunne and then the next he's Butch and acting like a completely different person even though we just saw him a week ago as a completely different character. No explanation for the change or taking him off TV for several months to at least make people forget. It's like they are treating NXT like it doesn't exist and is in a completely different universe from Raw and Smackdown even though they own all three. They are all under the same umbrella. And apparently it's looking like this going to continue to be a thing going forward. It's just stupid and ridiculous and just really shows why Vince really needs to step down.

Yeah, but they changed the name of Thurman "Sparky" Plugg to Bob "Spark Plug" Holly without explanation and no-one complained. Although, that's mainly because Thurman Plugg is the worst name in history.

Michael Cole repeatedly comparing him to a child is not helping to sell me on the “Butch” thing.

Pete Dunne was one of my favourite things to come out of NXT/NXT UK, so it is still pretty jarring to see him known as Butch, but that being said, this scrappy doo character is pretty funny and I'm just glad he's got something to run with, because there's a chance this group can get mega over if booked right (lol)

It's not like he was Thurman Sparky Plugg the racecar driver one week and then a week later was Bob "Speedy Delivery" Holly and doing a postal delivery guy gimmick.

But I’ve only read how big evil WWE ruined a can’t miss prospect like Pete Dunne BUTCH. I mean the act has been in some fun segments, but Pete Dunne is a very special in ring talent when he's allowed to be himself. BUTCH's ceiling on the main roster seems pretty limited, and he's lost his only match so far to a rollup, and acting like a child and being PRESENTED like he's a child by commentary and such, is not exactly great Is the act more entertaining than expected because Dunne's committed to the bit? Yes. Is this automatically amazing because of it booking wise? Not exactly... but would Pete Dunne as it had been presented any better if he would have stayed Pete Dunne? Probably not! So roll with the punches and at least it's entertaining at the moment right? Lol.

I find them entertaining but I just don't know what they expect the larger WWE audience to do with them. They're slotted as heels but have more personality than most guys on the roster, they're new, and they're goofy. It seems like a recipe for faces but that seems very far from the direction they're going.
Also, I still wish they would just dress like slightly more modern European hooligans. At least more modern than 1930.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Butch will end up getting more over than NXT Pete Dune would have ever gotten with the audience. Agreed. I'd say BUTCH is getting over alot faster than Ridge for sure.

It's a recurring theme. Before they forgot about her, Doudrop was booked quite strongly to start except for the stupid name change. The only issue with Butch Dunne is the name change so far. The only issue with WALTER and Barthel's debut is the stupid names too. Names are important. Butch is the least hurt though because Pete "Butch" Dunne is so easily a retconnable "it was his nickname". And besides, they had Shorty G for a sodding year. I’d argue Imperium’s music getting severely downgraded is another issue. It blends into the background so badly Oh yeah, anything is a downgrade on Dvorak!

I like it
I love that Dunne is throwing his all into the Butch character and even Sheamus and Ridge can't stop him sometimes. They are making for a fun trio. With that said, they could just easily kept him as Pete Dunne and brought him in as Sheamus protege and still kept everything the same but ehh

Hope they find the little scamp soon!

They've lost BUTCH again. Hope they find the little scamp soon! I thought it was kind of a missed opportunity when they lost him lost week. They lost him in a interview segment before a commercial then immediately found him when they came back from break when he started attacking New Day. I think it would make for a fun ongoing story throughout an episode with Butch running off early in the show and them cutting backstage throughout the night to Butch causing havoc while Sheamus and Ridge look for him.

It really helps to have Sheamus at the helm. He’s one of those dudes that can make anything work. It’s amazing how my esteem, for him, has grown from year to year. I would love to see him get one more main event run. He's had a good career but they've done it all backwards. You're meant to go from Comedy goof to tag team specialist to world champion not the other direction.

Xavier Woods used his small package to finish off Butch tonight. Yep.

I actually kind of dig the whole Butch thing just because of how Dunne just completely goes for it on selling the bit. I've always loved Dunne, but I never knew he could be this funny. He's probably just enjoying the opportunity to do something different with his character. Since about 2015 his gimmick has mostly been "William Regal watched Peaky Blinders a lot"
