2002 felt like such a drastic shift from 2000 & 2001. In wrestling, WCW & ECW get bought out leaving the WWF (now WWE) as the only mainstream company in the states Meanwhile, in sports, the NBC gives up its NBA coverage over to ABC. Then there was a shakeup in the Saturday morning lineup with 4Kids replacing the Fox Kids block as a result of the Disney purchase, with all of the leftovers migrating over to ABC Family/ABC Kids. Lastly, in video games, the sixth generation era consoles gets into full gear with the PS2, X-Box, and the Nintendo Gamecube to replace the N64. Weird. The NFL realigned it's divisions in 2002 as well, breaking up a number of classic division rivalries, and Pat Summerall and John Madden were split up as a broadcast team after 20 years. Lots was changing in 2001/02. I started high school in the Fall of 2001. I figured since I was transitioning out of early childhood, the world I was immersed in thought they'd do the same. It only makes sense that the world would revolve around me. And even though it's been WWE for a larger portion of my life than it was WWF, 'WWE' still sounds weird to me. And the switch is a good demarcation point for me waning fan interest. I love the World Wrestling Federation. I have complicated feelings for WWE.
