Seeing as today was the day of the Owl House Season 2 Finale (I have seen it already though I think it will air a bit later in the US), I thought it was a good idea to talk about the one feature on an already good show that I really really love.
I admit that a same-sex relationship in Western animated shows aimed at a non-adult audience is nothing new at this point in time, having been done by previous shows like Steven Universe, The Loud House, She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power etc.. and even Disney animated shows have had their same-sex couples though mostly in the background (Sheriff Blurbs and Deputy Darland in Gravity Falls, Violet Sabrewing's two dads in the 2017 Ducktales show), but I guess the fact that for the first time a Disney animated show had one of their protagonists be a bisexual and her beginning a romance and officially dating a lesbian is something that many people took notice off.
And I have to say the reason for why I like the pairing of Luz Noceda and Amity Blight in the Owl House is not just because it is the first time a Disney animated show has a same-sex relationship front and center but because it is a well-written relationship:
-Both of them are really likable characters with Amity especially developing from her roots as a stereotypical Queen Bee/nasty school bully/popular girl in school character (which, as we learn, is just a facade due to her overbearing and pushy parents...well, one of them really but that toxic waste of human DNA is nasty enough for two characters) to a sweet, blushing and adorable cuddlemuffin that can still be fierce and powerful when protecting people she cares about.
-Their whole romance angle just hits the same sweet spots that the Max/Roxanne relationship in A Goofy Movie also covered. I hate to quote the Nostalgia Critic on it, but he did make a good point on that relationship being portrayed pretty realistically in regards to the shyness, fear of embarrassing situations, not really knowing what to do etc.. And Lumity hits the same spots IMHO.
-It was also given a pretty good time to develop over the course of the series. It took a bit for them to become friends, Amity developing romantic feelings for Luz, Luz starting to reciprocate those feelings, them asking each other out, having ample screen time as a couple and then, finally, getting to share an on-screen kiss together. All of this over the course of 40 episodes.
-The environment in which the show takes place also helps and makes me kinda wish I could move to the Boiling Isles for being a pretty inclusive place. Not only are demons and humans living side by side without any speciesist problems, but same-sex relationship also are no big deal on this island as seen by Willow having two dads, Eda having a relationship with Raine Whispers who is non-binary (I think? I am not sure regarding the whole genderfluid/non-binary definition)...Heck, even Amity's mom (who is the very definition of a toxic waste of human DNA) had more of a problem in the penultimate episode of Season 2 that her daughter's girlfriend was a criminal than her daughter having a romantic girlfriend, period. Sad that an island where monsters roam is more of an inclusive place than the real world is.
And just because this is my thread, a highlight reel of cute/adorable Lumity moments:
-Their first meeting (from "I Was A Teenage Abomination")

-After several episodes (with one episode seeing Amity talking to herself about whether Luz entering Hexside will change nothing in their interactions), the first big episode in that relationship happened with "Enchanting Grom Fright" with the episode revealing that Amity's biggest fear was getting rejected by the person she wanted to ask out for grom (Hexside's version of a prom). Luz was clueless about this, only seeing part of a letter Amity wanted to give to this person, and innocently asked Amity for a dance. Later, we learned who Amity wanted to ask out for the grom:
-The last episode of Season 1 to really focus on this was "Wing It Like Witches" which mostly featured Amity being a shy, blushing wreck around Luz for the most part (but being incredibly adorable during it) (yeah this video is not really good but its the best I could find):
-Next up, Season 2's "Escaping Expulsion" which has this Lumity moment where Luz also starts to develop feelings for Amity that are more than just friendship (and also "Stay away from my Luz!"):
-Onwards to "Through The Looking Glass Ruins", which took it one step further by having Amity give Luz a peck on the cheek (which she immediately regretted):
-After trying to avoid Luz for a while due to this incident, it wasn't until "Knock, Knock, Knockin' On Hooty's Door" that they meet again and it was well worth the wait:
-After having some more adorable couple moments strewn over the next few episodes (including Luz reciprocating Amity's peck in "Follies At The Coven Day Parade"):

...the penultimate episode of Season 2 brought us not just pecks, but a full blown kiss (with some smooth animation going on):
And after the final episode of Season 2:
