It was right at that perfect intersection of irresponsible and iconic, right up there with Mick Foley telling Undertaker to throw him off the Cell at King of the Ring 1998. Should he have done it? Probably not. But in doing so did he probably change the trajectory of his career for the better? Unquestionably.
The moment Cody Rhodes returns, whether it's at SummerSlam, Survivor Series, or Royal Rumble, he is THE main eventer. He just went from a strong contender to take the title off of Roman Reigns to the proverbial favorite. He's a made man in WWE. His performance last night, while grisly and grotesque, will absolutely live on in professional wrestling lore for generations to come.

Fightful just reported that Cody's getting surgery on Thursday. Hope the surgery goes well for him and that he didn't aggravate anything.

Great match but I donât get the match of of the year ravings. Wasnât even the best match on the card to me, I enjoyed the womenâs triple threat more.
But maybe I just wasnât compelled by the âCody is doing this while seriously hurtâ aspect

I mean, yea, he couldnât make that injury eorse. But what if he hurt something else because of this injury?
Like what if he hurt something else in the arm or on his other arm trying to compensate?

Man, they had Cody kick out of EVERYTHING in this match too. Surprised he didnât take a sledgie shot to kick out of. Says a lot about how they view him. Reminds me how they protected the rock to death when he lost at wm x7 even though they knew he was gone for a few months afterwards.

But maybe I just wasnât compelled by the âCody is doing this while seriously hurtâ aspect That was a pretty big aspect to the match! Move for move it may not have been as great as the womenâs triple threat, but the emotion/feeling it evoked from a lot of people is why people are saying itâs so good. Similar to Lesnar-Cena

Will Cody complete the circle and get the HHH'esque comeback vignettes, and return in Madison Square Garden...

Probably not MSG but I'm not NGL it'd be awesome if say at Rumble, we still hadn't heard anything about him being close to coming back and then during the Rumble we hear... youtu.be/TU_1JFVLiAk

What the actual f***? And somehow that's still not the worst marking on his body.

I consider myself generally in favour of bodily autonomy, people can do what they want with their own bodies if it doesn't cause harm to others. But damn is Cody stretching that principle to its absolute limit. It's genuinely quite scary to see how little self preservation he has. I broadly agree with you on bodily autonomy but I feel like the second you are agreeing to do even one spot you are putting the other people in the ring at risk

Seth was in no danger as most of the drama was on Cody taking punishment.

Really this whole thing was actually just another Dusty reference.

Not choosing to change the match, when you have already established the guy is willing to work hurt

The thing that worries me as much as Cody hurting himself is that some other wrestler out there thinks they're being 'gutsy' by working through a serious injury. It sets a worrying precedent when this can get cleared, & may lead to copycats in the future.
