Here’s another one.
In 2004, we were told to NEVER be on the phone when we were on the sales floor unless it was to help out customers. (Before smartphones, that was extremely rare like calling 911 if there was emergency or calling another store to check on an item if the store phone was unavailable. That didn’t stop associates from using them on the floor to chit chat with friends or in later years texting. One time, the store manager had to use his cellphone on the sales floor for business reasons. When he told us again not to use their cellphone on the sales floor, apparently they said: “But, you use yours.” Manager: “For business reasons.” Later on, when I got a smartphone, I used it to help out customers with either using a translator app or to compare items etc. When I became a member of package pickup, we were allowed to use our smartphones to help locate web orders. I always wondered I think what it would be like if a bossy employee (who’s not a manager) told me not to use the smartphone to help out customers but to get a Spanish speaking associate and if I need to compare items for customers to walk 20 feet to the computer to compare items and locate web orders (despite management saying I could). I would say: @management says I could.” (Hey, when I worked for Macys backroom and on the clock I couldn’t use my smartphone IN THE BACKROOM for anything (not even if it made my job easier) except if I wanted to I guess, activate a playlist. Made NO sense at all. Another reason why I disliked my stint at Macys with other reasons being I wasn’t taken care of.
Back to Sears though, apparently one customer came up to one associate for help. The associate ignored him as he texted away. When the store manager found out about this, he was FURIOUS. Manager (yells): “IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR JOB, THERES THE DOOR.”

Parking lot attendant. Gathering all the shopping carts and lumber carts that are left out there, as well as helping customers load their cars with the heavy merchandise. I've worked there for several years. It's fairly easy work, but very physically daunting, especially in rough weather (and here in New England, we see all the kinds of rough weather constantly.) Usually I don't get lectured too often by bosses, unless there's a lack of carts up front and customers have trouble finding them, then bosses get on my ass to hurry up and gather them. I've been there 9 years-most in Paint, 1 year in Deliveries (don't ever accept that position!). I did the lot a few times as a fill in for vacations. Normally on snowy days or the hottest days of the year. You should check out our Yammer on my apron. It's a nice way to get to know your district folks if you ever want to move up. If its Home Depot they contract out their deliveries now. I paid 6000 for flooring. The company that delivered it scheduled me for a Saturday. After waiting all day they call me in the afternoon asking if I still want it. I told them after wasting the entire day yes bring it now. When they arrived I told them to stack it in the empty bedroom. They said they would only go as far as the living room. Note I paid for delivery and unloading/delivery. 2 charges. I told put it in the living room or take it back. They left and I followed right after and demanded every penny refunded. They did it so I guess they are used to it now.

In my area of Maryland we have a delivery service called Estes. They are supposedly paid by Home Depot and when they refuse to do something, others tell us "they work for us." But they have all the power to refuse anything and everything. We had like two or three really good regular drivers and even they could find an issue with the littlest thing. There are so many problems with the delivery service from employees making promises they can't keep to order associates not caring and so many things in between. We also have major stores who get all the money for orders and the orders may come to us because we are the "closest" store to the job site. Which is BS because I had many job sites 40+ miles away. LOL. There is no time limit so someone can put in a massive order at 5 PM or later and it's supposed to be ready for the next day. It is the worst position I've ever held. Luckily a distribution center was built so lots of the bigger orders are filled through there now. But your issue, as you noted was the third party service. They are given every right by their employers not to abide by any rules if they chose. Not sure the exact term of your delivery payment/request but we have a "threshold" for flooring which means it's just delivered over the door threshold.

Bedroom was 10 ft away. If I was in the wrong Home Depot could have tried to keep a restocking fee as that was also in the contract. But they knew they were in the wrong so they refunded in full no argument.

I don't have an employee handbook handy or anything, but one of my past managers probably wasn't supposed to bang dudes in the bathroom before he bought meth from them. And that's why you're not a supervisor, isn't it?

See, it's things like finding the detail of "wasn't supposed to bang dude in the bathroom before he bought meth" f***ing hilarious that keeps me out of the really good schools.

Mild compared to the other ones. Back then, worked for an American country. After a while, there was a rule where during work hours we should communicate in English only. On a job we'd even get usernames of names that were pretty white and western. For most part, we kept conversations in our native language.
Most of us speak it well enough, but with all the hours we had then communicating was easier if we spoke naturally, and kept our voices down whenever our foreign bosses was around.
One time the one above me had a nasty breakup, and the other party involved was someone else from work. Out of solidarity and it being an in the moment thing, we decided to go AWOL minutes before work began. None of us got punished for it. Got free shawarma rice out of it.
