Every time he has a surprise - the wrestling journalists never spoil it by saying things like “so and so was spotted in the area” like it usually happens for the WWE.
Personally I love that I manage to still be surprised by the product, but it seems AEWs surprises are never spoiled by the IWC.

A good relation with all top people involved.would be my guess
They are either not snakes or are happy with Tony and don't wanna screw that up. Basically they are less like to want to spoil the surprise
It's less the journalists don't spoil it and more no one tells then.

It has to be the writers in WWE that tip off journalists. It's the only obvious difference that's a part of the creative process.

The only ones I can really think of that got "spoiled" were:
CM Punk (AEW hyped this up a month in advance) Bryan Danielson (debuted, but was swerved with Adam Cole's debut) Matt Hardy (debuted, but was swerved with Brodie Lee's debut)
So they find a way.

I'm guessing Tony Khan either keeps a lot of info to the chest where only he and the surprise debut know what's happening. Or the usual sources journalists go to for leaks keep quiet either out of fear and/or loyalty to Khan.
Khan and AEW in general also seem to treat wrestling journalists better than Vince and WWE (granted that isn't exactly a high bar to pass). Maybe that plays a part of it too.

For what matters Bryan has said any information he gets he will publish about AEW ,he just doesn't get it . But it does seem TK keeping a good relation with the media and often giving then news and scoops avoids part of the issue of the news needing to have many insiders.( This is my speculation)

I don't know how successful he's really been.
Everyone knew Punk would show up. They didn't really try to hide it once he signed.
Danielson, Cole, Swerve, Ruby, and Athena seemed pretty expected, it was more the timing that was a surprise.
Only one I can think of that was a "surprise" was Christian, and that was mostly because it was oversold so people were expecting a bigger star.

But all those 'the timing' signings were less 'we know someone is coming in' and more 'obviously they're going to make a play'. Ruby Soho didn't get spoiled so much as she put out promotional videos that all strongly pointed to a specific day.

"Journalists" have less sources inside AEW, mostly cause is a new company. Meltzer has maintained sources in WWE for decades

That being said, most surprises have been more matters of "When" instead of "If". We all knew Punk was coming well in advance, for the most part. Keith Lee was obvious, Andrade was obvious, etc. etc.

Christian wasn't oversold, he was just debuting at the same time that some of the biggest stars in the industry were available. If you don't think Christian is a HoF talent you're wrong

It's probably going to get more difficult the bigger AEW gets, but some of it is that TK just doesn't tell everyone and I think a debuting talent will be kept separated from people until after they're actually out there if it's going to be presented as a surprise. I do remember something about Aubrey Edwards not really being told much outside of what she is directly involved with with debuts, and I know Schiavone likes having a certain level of surprise, too.

Meltzer even just started talking about TK being able to keep everything under wraps. Mind you, it's more centered around injuries than debuts, but it's still about how nothing gets out.

Tony runs a pretty tight ship and only the people that need to know will actually be told about surprises.

A good example is how little we still know of the negotiations between Khan and Cody before the latter left for WWE. It seems like the only people who know are Tony, Cody, and any representatives. Tony and Cody are still apparently close personally so neither has said anything bad about the other in public.

Everybody is pulling in the same direction in AEW for the most part and the company is considerably smaller so you have fewer people leaving in return for more favourable coverage to smark fans.

Right, lmao. Let's keep it a buck. Good relations, sure, but money (and promised exclusives, perks, etc.) keep a lot of mouths closed more than anything else
