I'll never understand why she wasn't called up to the main roster after dropping the NXT title to Racquel Gonzalez. Everything they've done with her since then has proven that they don't understand either.

The link you've put up doesnt lead to any news about Io, unless I'm meant to sign up or pay to see it.
I hope she stays, as I don't think AEW would do much more with her given their record, and if she goes back to Japan, I wont see her work anymore as I dont follow the Japanese scene at all.
However, if she does stay, I hope they they are able to figure out how to use her on the main roster, though I have many doubts as we all know how Vince feels about people who cant speak English perfectly - except Asuka, who is the exception that seems to prove the rule.

The actual quote has it that she is planning on leaving to be closer to her family, so there is literally nothing there saying she was unhappy with her booking at any point. She may very well be, but until she says something, it’s all projection from fans unhappy with her booking on her behalf.

I will add in the obvious disclaimer that Dave likes to act like he knows her family situation, but he's been very, very, very wrong about her in the past. But its not wrong to guess that her deal is almost up soon plus they are acting like she doesn't even exist anymore on NXT. The actual quote has it that she is planning on leaving to be closer to her family, so there is literally nothing there saying she was unhappy with her booking at any point. She may very well be, but until she says something, it’s all projection from fans unhappy with her booking on her behalf. Nah, she's been pretty clear in multiple interviews that she doesn't want to remain in NXT, and I imagine between Dakota getting released and Raquel getting the callup before her, she's probably not too happy with her booking. Not to mention she's never been a fan of being portrayed as a sex object (she blasted this kind of thinking in her autobiography), which is basically a large part of NXT 2.0 now.

I honestly thought she was injured again, hence why she was missing again?
Still, if it's for family reasons, sad to see her go, but totally understandable however much her booking may or may not have met some expectations.
I will be sad to see her go if she does go, but that's just selfishly. As long as she is happy with her choice, good for her.

She is injured, but they aren't featuring her on TV in any shape or form either, like they do for other women who are injured. Look at Nikkita Lyons as an example of this. She was on TV despite being injured. There was literally no reason Io couldn't be either.

If Nikita is going to be good to go in 3 weeks, of course you keep her active. If it's 3 months, of course you dont. I'd assume the same for Io.

Doesn’t seem like the booking is the reason she won’t re-sign. She wants to go back home.

I think regardless of what people think about this, its safe to say if Io does leave, it will be one of, if not the biggest waste of a women's wrestling talent in modern wrestling history. Especially on the main roster.

They had her do a few dark matches and never called her up. If she ends up leaving without ever coming to the main roster, that says a lot about how they evaluate their talent (it says bad things).

Oh no! What will her best friend Zoey Starks do without her?! In all seriousness, I’d be disappointed to see her go. Io is amazing, one of the best in the world & has been one of my faves to watch these last few years. However I can totally understand her wanting to be closer to her family.

I mean yeah. The fact that Raquel, Aliyah, and Xia all got called up before her is utterly baffling. Especially Aliyah who still looks as bad as the day she joined the company. From what I understand, the only reason she got called up is because "Vince likes how hard she works" which is baffling since...Io works just as hard, if not harder?

It is not that I do not believe it but I am gonna wait for more details on specifically the reasoning because it has been said many a time , that Meltzers track record for reporting on Japanese talents is not very good and Io is a very private person so who knows when she had said that to whoever like there is context missing in that for me.
Anyways IF all of this ends up being true then it goes down absoloutley as the biggest wasted female talent in WWE history , to me she is the best womens wrestler of her generation and I still consider her the best in the world.
I can see AEW offering her a big time deal that allows her alot more time to be in Japan while working for them and they would be immensely stupid to not immediately field her an offer the absoloute second her contract runs out.
WWE losing both Sasha and Io in a short span of time is Dixie Carter running late WCW levels of insane incompetence.

I mean I'll just say it. If I was Io, I would be demanding at least a decent six figure contract, a guaranteed significant push and spotlight on the main roster, and a no cut clause before I would even think of signing again. But I do think if Io leaves, that's another massive nail in the whole "women's revolution" or the whole "WWE takes women's wrestling seriously" coffin.

Considering how friendly AEW is with other companies that's probably what will happen, they'll throw her a nice money deal, move her pretty quickly to the top of their women's division and give her freedom to work wherever she wants. The WWE needs to start thinking here, if they hand IO and Sasha to AEW you are giving them the female aces that they lack for that division...is this the kinda thing you wanna do?

I dont think WWEs treatment of Io means they dont take womens wrestling seriously. Plenty of other things going on since Ace and Pritchard came back do show that though. IMO the reason Io never got used is WWE being close minded and racist. Close minded in that a wrestler has to fit their narrow view of what a star is. Io does amazing work but she cant cut those long promos they want. They rarely deviate from their formula. The racist part is the Asuka exception. She is very similar to Io but has been pushed well at times. But WWE probably feels they have their one asian who cant speak well so they dont need another.

Asuka also got through and was already established by the time Prichard and Ace got back, she's basically grandfathered in. Today's WWE is much more about Nikita Lyons and Carmella than it is Io Shirai.

I mean Fightful reported a month or two ago that Io was super well liked backstage by her coworkers and management. The problem is that Vince and Bruce weren't explicitly named. And those two are the only people who matter. If they put forth even a fraction of the effort they are putting forth in their ten billionth attempt to get Lacey over, Io would be a top star in no time. As painful as it is to say, we don't know how much longer Asuka is going to be wrestling. Io would be the ideal person to fill her shoes when the time comes. Because it's painfully clear WWE sees nothing in Sarray. It would be smarter for them to invest in talents like Io than it is investing in women like Nikkita who is still god awful and I can't ever see her being taken seriously considering they present her solely as a thirst trap.
