Yeah, this is not Pantera. Although they at least aren't like Dino by himself still calling it Fear Factory.

Honestly, I think it probably fits in with Static-X's style just fine and I'm betting Wayne would have loved it. It's weird AF but that seems to be on par for the band. Honestly, I'm not sure who could have simply come in and injected the right attitude without the theatrics. I guess Spider One could have done it, but then they'd have the issue of them being viewed as a nu-metal "supergroup". I dunno about that. Wayne and Tony openly hated each other before Wayne passed and Wayne's wife also did not get along with them. Then she died so there wasn't really anyone to stand in the way of a reunion anymore. Still, I don't know why they didn't just get Tony to do the vocals instead, it'd probably be a lot less goofy and morbid than what they ended up doing. Yeah, my understanding is that, whether it rose to hate or not, Wayne and Tony definitely had problems, with it seemingly revolving around Wayne's drug use and disagreements since they were co-owners of the Statix X band name. That seems to have applied to the other band members, too, given none of them would join Wayne for the last iteration of Static X he led before dissolving it due to disputes with Tony, but I think only Tony had any stake in the name alongside Wayne. It's debatable, then, yeah, whether or not Wayne would have approved. He obviously had a morbid sense of humor, but I could see him being keen on the bandmates who left him in life carrying the name on when he was gone. Then again, his having passed would also ultimately back up their reasons for not wanting to tour with him at the end, so maybe he'd concede the point. With his widow's suicide, I have no idea if any of Wayne's family get money or not for the Static X revival, so that's also sort of a shadow over it on whether or not this is exploitative.

I noticed Zakk Wylde seems to be calling this a 'celebration and a tribute' rather than a reunion. I'm not sure if he just feels gross calling it a reunion or it's a situation where the media just ran with it being a reunion.

If it's marketed as "Phil, Rex, Zakk, and Charlie play Pantera!", I still think that's kind of icky but it's more acceptable. If it's just Pantera on the marquee that's f***ed up.

Given how close Zakk and Dime were, I'm sure Zakk's given this a lot of thought and wants to celebrate his friends legacy and it'll be a tribute more than anything.

So a question: If this happened when Vinnie Paul was alive, is it significantly less gross, or is it still shitty without Dimebag? To me, this died with Dimebag, I think that's the hardest part to get around. With the way Dimebag died and with it happening nearly 18 years ago, it obviously feels like this shouldn't happen, not in a touring aspect at least. If this was a one-off show, I don't think it would be as bad.

Plus I can't see him being on stage doing a Pantera set without Dime...hell he couldn't even complete the second damageplan album without Dime (apparently there's recordings of Dime's work as he'd nearly completed his guitar parts)

I think it is sketchy as f*** to call this a reunion
I know other bands have done it and it is almost always questionable
