Got back from seeing it, thought it was quite good. Circumstances meant it was going to be a tonal shift, and I thought this was a good origin story in contrast to the first film. Riri was a big standout character IMO. {Spoiler}Shuri seeing Killmonger in her vision was an interesting swerve I felt actually worked.

I thought that was so dope and worked perfectly. One of the most exciting parts of the movie for me.

Saw it Saturday night. Thoughts:
-The tribute at the beginning was amazing. Dead silence in the theater for that. -Angela Basset should get an Oscar nomination for this. She was INCREDIBLE. -Without spoilering, I liked REDACTED's cameo and the little storyline with it. -Going in, I knew nothing of Namor. I liked his story and character. It'll be fun to see where it goes. -Seriously, Angie Basset was unbelievable.

Saw it Thursday, absolutely loved it. I'm not a big "give the comic book movie an Oscar" guy, but Angela Bassett absolutely gave an award-worthy performance. Letitia brought it, Lupita brought it, Winston was a delight as M'Baku as always, Dominique is great as Ironheart, and Tenoch Huerta's Namor is immediately in the top five MCU villains, right up there with Thanos and Killmonger.
Wish I could say it was a flawless movie, but nothing is perfect; there's a second act lull that feels like watching them physically set the stage for the third act that is only forgivable because it is a helluva third act. There's a cameo that obviously only exists to set up stuff Marvel plans on doing later (kind of a reoccurring problem with their insistence that "everything is connected", if I'm being honest).
Overall, I loved it. Very serious movie, but not totally humorless, has better acting and CGI than it's predecessor, and is immediately the bright star of an otherwise lackluster phase. Definitely worth seeing on an IMAX screen.

So Namor's gotta be getting his own film for Phase 5 right? It would be cool but he may be stuck in Hulk hell of not being able to actually have his own movie without dealing with Universal, which Disney is not about

With Hulk it was just distribution rights which is why Marvel has been able to use Hulk all they want, just not in a Hulk movie unless Universal distributed. There was speculation that Universal held full rights for Namor which is why Marvel has waited so long to use him. They were waiting for the rights to revert. If that was the case they could use him as they want now. Or possibly Universal held the distribution rights but Fox was claiming they had the other rights because of Namors FF and X Men associations. Marvel got that handled when they bought Fox but Universal is still in the mix so no Namor movie.
