Man U picking up where they left off from last season. Great to see.

As much as I loathe Man City, I have to respect Erling Haaland for having a great PL debut.

If I was Erik ten Hag I’d stop pissing around and bench players if they keep playing like shit regardless of who they are. It’s embarrassing that professional football players don’t seem to be energised to be playing for a massive club like United.

To be fair, most of upper management seem to not be energized to be running a massive club like United.

New season, same old shit. United have the same fundamental problems they had last season, and Eriksen and Martínez aren't going to be the answers. We're weak at right-back – Dalot is great going forward and poor defensively, while Wan-Bissaka is great defensively and poor going forward. Martínez's lack of height is going to be exposed without a fast defensive partner, and that's not Maguire or Lindelöf. Bailly and Varane have more pace, but the former can't seem to go more than five games without an injury and the latter has struggled to adapt to the English game. McTominay and Fred are honest, incredibly hardworking players, but they're squad players at best. They should not be the lynchpins the midfield is based around. Martial is not a centre-forward, no matter how many tantrums he throws about being played out wide. That leaves Ronaldo, who is a physical wonder, but age catches up with everybody eventually and his heart clearly isn't in the club any more. Reports that we're trying to sign Marko Arnautović doesn't convince me that we're not already into panic buying mode. If I'm optimistic, United can potentially get back into the top four inside three years with a few solid transfer windows. If I'm realistic, we could be looking at five years or more. Part of me wants Man City to win the league in tedious processions for the next ten seasons, just to highlight the mockery that the league has become.

Man Utd absolutely shitting the bed trying to sign Marco Arnautovic & Rabiot (would be interested in the fee agreed because I think they will overpay), but this is what you get if you spend the entire summer trying to buy the manager's old players with little success (well overpaid on Martinez) and absolutely no plan B. Clubs now know they're desperate and will pay ungodly amounts for mediocre talent.

I think a United resurgence starts with addressing the elephant in the room and letting Ronaldo go. It’s clear the longer he stays and just plays without passion, the more it’s gonna negatively affect MU.

It’s clear the longer he stays and just plays without passion, the more it’s gonna negatively affect MU. The problem is nobody wants him. Well, more accurately nobody who could a) afford to pay his salary, and b) offer him Champions League football want him. So the options are let the greatest goalscorer of the modern game sit at home (to the tune of £500k per week) until his contract runs down, or make use of his talents and trust he is at least professional enough to do his job.

There’s so many problems with the club off the field that need to be addressed before they even get to the team.

All things considered, I'd rather be a United fan than a Barca fan right now.
Their treatment of De Jong, Braithwaite, and Depay has been scandalous.

What a shitshow they are right now. No other top 6 side would touch either of them. And after finally getting rid of a few of their locker room headaches this summer they're replacing them with two guys who are arguably worse in that regard. I just don't understand it. Newcastle got Bruno Guimaraes. Villa got Boubacar Kamara (on a free transfer). Spurs got Bissouma for a very reasonable price. Any of them would easily walk into United's midfield. And there's players like Youri Tielemans and Ruben Neves who would probably be available. It's crazy that the season has already started and they still haven't signed at least two quality midfielders which they've needed for years. I thought Eriksen would be a decent rotation option for them but the way things are going he'll have to be their main man and start every game. This might be their lowest point post-Fergie and they've had a few. Even just a year ago things looked pretty promising too. They had finished second and then made exciting signings with Ronaldo/Sancho/Varane. Of course even then they didn't address the midfield problem. It's way beyond just midfield now though. To even think about challenging for top 4 in the near future they need a striker, a RB, at least one top quality DM/CM and I know De Gea has been their best player in the past decade but I think the time to move on from him has come too.

I hate Man City for their style of football and how they run things, but they’ve got titles to their name and aren’t a massive clownshow like Barça is.

Bringing in Arnautovic would be nearly as bad as announcing Ryan Giggs as a new Coach right now. He’s always been a decent striker but he’s got one of the worst reputations in football. Whilst I’m sure some of the stuff about him is exaggerated, he’s acted like a dick far too often.

Conor Coady has gone to Everton on a season’s loan. Quite surprised about that. He was captain at Wolves and was doing well there.

Is Bundesliga just a bad league beyond the always-dominant Bayern Munich (who are eleven-in-a-row league champions)?
