Now I know there's a good possibility he had some personal problems backstage and such, but just from an in front of the camera perspective: do you think Waltman, either as 1-2-3 Kid or X-Pac, could have had a run with the WWF Championship (leaving off him as Syxx with the WCW title because sadly lets face it, the guys at the top wouldn't have allowed it).
I'm definitely in the camp that he should have at least been Intercontinental Champion once (he did well his few times he was European Champion), but even if he had pretty good matches for the title with Bret Hart and The Rock, I'm not sure about him holding the top prize. I mean, if he started a decade later for sure, and I could see him going against guys like Styles, Balor and the like. But unsure about back then.
What say you, FAN?

He could have been if they had decided to put the title on him, but they didn't, and I can't think of one reason why they should have. He was a great worker, capable of having a great match with just about anyone, but no one's choice to be the world champion. Given his look and stature, he had some great runs.

People often forget that at his peak, he was VERY over.
I do think this could have been possible, but the window was short for a variety of reasons. The main event scene was pretty packed as it was.
He should have definitely won the IC title at some point. That'd have been a good ceiling for him. As it is, he's going to go down as one of the biggest stars in terms of cruiserweights of all time, and that's nothing to sneeze at as it is, even if he really got burned by the bad breakup angle with Kane and being so tied to D-X after it ran its course. The name "X-Pac" really burned him on that front, it'd be like being some guy named "nWo Dude" in 2000, after everyone wanted to move on.

Pre Kane betrayal he had been super over. He could have been a great underdog babyface champ. Post Kane betrayal he was never over as a face again and his heel act got old.

The most possible I ever saw it was when he replaced HHH to face Rock at Capital Carnage 1998 in the UK, that that point I feel he was his most over and could have easily took the spot Mankind took a few weeks later and I feel the fans would have accepted it (not as much as Mankind but it would have been over all the same.

I think X Pac holding the WWF championship was a bit of a stretch. The most I can see him do is a one off RAW or minor PPV where he challenges the champ, puts up a great fight, but just comes up short, which is what he did anyway against The Rock. I do agree he should've been IC champion sometime in 1999 though.

I think he was a believable challenger to the belt at certain points in his career and his WWF title match with Bret Hart on Raw is one of my favorite matches of all time. I do not think he would have been a very interesting person to put the title on however at the points in time he was in the WWF except maybe as the ultimate underdog type champion during the new generation as the Kid but Vince would never have done that

Since you agree with the opinion of him being a good contender at times, thought that just popped into mind: had he stuck around in 96 instead of going to WCW to become Syxx, would you have bought heel 1-2-3 Kid as a challenger for WWF Champion Shawn Michaels?

IC title is really where he should have been at the height of his popularity.
From there is...a question. If his stardom doesn't totally collapse the way it did, could he have gone further? He'd have benefited from Attitude Era hegemony in a big way if he hadn't fallen off so hard in 2000, or at least, it's possible to imagine that, but he demonstrably did collapse and never recover and it's hard to see that as entirely avoidable. Even if the heel turn didn't destroy him, he would still have been outclassed by the post-Radicalz status quo.

No.i agree with most of whats been said about him, great worker, good matches and there's no doubt he was very over at one point but there's a reason its called X-Pac heat.he became very stale and annoying quick.everytime you seen him it was exact same dance to ring, crotch chops and bronco buster.

I believe he would have been a (not justin) credible PPV main event challenger at the height of his babyface run but I'd struggle to see him with the belt, maybe for shock value but wouldn't feel legitimate with how his career played out. Should have definitely been an IC champ though.

Shoulda been an IC Champ. I honestly don't see why he couldn't have won it for a few weeks during the Attitude Era, TBH. Hot potato central.

F*** no, dude just lacked that “it factor”. I absolutely agree that it’s a travesty they never let him have an IC run, but that dude just wasn’t world champion material. And I’m a big fan of Waltman, but he would not have worked as world champ

I can't see it ever happening because I don't think the boss ever saw him as someone who could be the top champion. Size isn't everything, but it's mostly because of his size.

But if he had started later and was around nowadays...he'd at least be around the same range as Rollins and Styles in size I would think.

If WWE had capitalised on how over he was in mid 99 teaming with Kane who knows. He made a great underdog babyface but once he turned heel on Kane he was done.
