Was the higher power reveal really as bad as people make out?it's had a lot of bad press over the years but honestly i don't think its anywhere near as bad as its made out. It wasn't a long drawn out storyline, sure Undertaker mentioned the higher power a couple times but it only really got ramped up a couple weeks before the reveal. Who could have been the higher power and have made it a better storyline and made sense in your opinion? I quite liked that it was Vince and thought it was well done

Let's post ways it could have been worse.
The Higher Power could have been revealed as The Gobbledy Gooker instead.

I honestly love it. I have no issue with it even it doesn't make any sense. Peak Russo booking.

I find it really funny that it made Stephanie's "betrayal" later with Triple H pretty goddamned justified and was even cited as her rationale, after he subjected her and his other immediate family to this.

It was bad and made no sense, but the WWE could throw anything out there then and it would have been over.
Probably could have revealed the higher power to be Val Venis and he turns the Ministry into a sex cult and it would have been over huge.

I still believe a sober (or at least not completely out of control drunk/high) Jake Roberts would've been incredible.... but it wasn't to be.

And I am contractually obliged whenever this angle is mentioned, to say that people on RSPW were speculating/claiming that Owen or Brian faked their deaths and they were the HP.

I still stand by Ted Dibiase... he brought Taker into the company and the money is the route of all evil still works... without twisting into knots about Vince basically tormenting himself.

Yes.
It took an entire year or so of stories and went: "lol not really" all while being the most boring outcome possible.

Know what the most insane thing about the Higher Power payoff is?
Vince was "off TV forever" and was *back* as a f***ing babyface, with Taker being written off TV all in the span of 3 months

The lack of a better answer doesn't really justify a bad writing choice; they shouldn't have built to it in the first place if all they had was 'ha ha gotcha'. "We pretended to be a satanic cult to f*** with you, guy I don't like" is the coma theory of wrestling payoffs.

Not sure that DiBiase would fit in the Satanic Cult thing...and at the time I am sure he wouldn't approve of that. (Wasn't DiBiase, in that phase, decrying the attitude era storylines and characters of the WWF?) Not that Ted didn't deserve a GOOD stint at managing finally. Like I said in another thread, it took 2021 and the Cameron Grimes angle to finally have him get a non-wrestling role correct.

I had forgotten about APWW,what a cesspool. Not that RSPW was much better by 99. My memory is bad but IIRC it was like 5 or so people in RSPW speculating the Brian/Owen faked their deaths. And I am betting a few of them were joking. James were you ever in the old #RSPWTalk chat on IRC back in that time? So many jokes and trolling plans were made in that chat. Like when whoever it was that found Alex DInk Cain's high school graduation pics and scanned and posted them. Or the time Greenman dug up that dark dark stuff about Centifeed/Arvid. Thinking late 99 is when Lvubun and another dude had PR0NWARS. Were they hacked and posted like 2000 porn site passwords in one 5 hour period. Sorry everybody just had a flood of old IWC memories hit.

I mean as a person watching at the time I had no idea about what Ted was up to at that point. I think he was still under contract to WCW technically
