In 2012 right as the shield debuted, his in ring career was dwindling and Cena was on the twilight of his full time run. Would Cena have turned heel eventually? Who of the shield would of been “the guy”

I guess this isn't really answering the question, but I don't know if the HHH of 10 years ago would be like the HHH of now. There was definitely a time when he would've never given someone like Adam Cole or Johnny Gargano a main event push.

Triple H was still way too egotistical in 2012 to be a responsible booker. It probably would've been a disaster.

Yeah I feel like 2012 and 2013 were very important years in molding HHH as he is now cause of embarrassing moments like his Summerslam 2012 selljob where ppl were chanting YOU TAPPED OUT at him and the Curtis Axel concussion bit where he got the wibble wobbles and everyone was just confused.

I know Triple H wasn't singlehandedly why Daniel Bryan got f***ed with or anything and that was all just on-screen stuff, but I have to wonder if Triple H being right in the thick of it, sometimes unable to even get a word in without being drowned out by "YES" and "DANIEL BRYAN" chants, had a lot to do with the directions he later took in hirings. He already had Sami Zayn and such as obvious star prospects down in NXT, but the real opening-of-the-floodgates kinda shit. He could see where tastes were turning even if Vince was going to be Vince about all of it.

A year before 2012 he shoehorned himself into one of the hottest storylines of all time and then went over the new major star they had just made. I don't think that was the right time for him to be in control.

Dude was still pretty active in ring then. He would have been in every big angle whether anyone wanted him there or not.

Triple H was still way too egotistical in 2012 to be a responsible booker. It probably would've been a disaster. Yeah seriously. Ten years ago he went over the hottest act the company had in years (Punk), and the entire premise of his WM rematch with Taker was that he kicked Taker’s ass so much the year before he didn’t want the match until Taker practically begged for it (if I’m remembering correctly). HHH was basically Hogan in the late 00s and early 10’s. He’s mellowed out since then, especially since he doesn’t have to book himself as the strongest, smartest, toughest, and sexiest character on the show.

Hunter's NXT roster was in many ways shaped by who was available and the organizational goal of squeezing out companies like ROH to give WWE a greater market share by catering to that particular audience. As he did that, he also realized it worked and dudes like Gargano and Cole could work as top guys. I truly believe his wrestling philosophy has transformed a ton so I don't think his 2012 self would approach this nearly the same way.

There’s be like 29 different branches of NXT and we’d all be talking about how excited we are for the launch of NXT Albania.

10 years ago he hadn't wound down the in-ring stuff enough and wasn't "Papa H". Now, if he had taken over say, 5 years ago? *A LOT* is different.

I think he was still too active as a wrestler for it not to be a conflict of interest. Plus, while he had a handful of those kinds of guys in the system already like Rollins, Ambrose and Cesaro, he wouldn’t have had the NXT booking run that eventually shaped (reshaped?) his worldview as a booker and got him all that goodwill, so he’d be going in very unproven at best and almost dreaded at worst (since the only point of comparison would be the influence he had over his own career).

I personally believe HHH getting NXT basically taken from him, watching Vince piss things away and suffering from a heart attack will "help" him be more open minded and thoughtful about running the WWE. Sometimes you gotta lose badly before you remember how to win.

I don't believe HHH would have been ok with Brock ending the Streak at WM 30!

I remember him not seemingly getting Zack Ryder's popularity, so I don't think that would have helped Zack. He probably would have been like Vince on the Daniel Byran push where he would be reluctant, but the crowd support was just too insane to ignore.

Sometimes you gotta lose badly before you remember how to win. I'd agree with this to an extent. I some of Triple H's issues as a booker are overlooked due to 2.0 being so negatively received overall, but I think seeing how poorly WWE has been received since last year especially gives time to reflect. As for 10 years ago, Triple H wasn't ready. Even going back 10 years ago to NXT while there was good there were a lot of things Trips was booking that just weren't catching on

He wasn’t far off his stance that indy workers can’t have good matches they can only simulate good matches. Which I guess nobody told him that’s what pro wrestling is.

In 2013, Triple H stood in the ring while the entire roster surrounded him and said they were afraid of The Miz and R-Truth. Extra tough Beth Phoenix said, "Hunner, we're goils."
I don't think Hunter was ready to run creative yet.
