Meltzer saying The Last Jedi was a strong lead in for Rampage, which might be one part of the reason for the higher rating. But yeah, trying to figure out what makes ratings go up and down is a losing game in the 2020s. That could be true... however, I think Meltzer says stuff that will cause everyone and their brother to respond to him. For whatever reason, he LOVES engaging with trolls.

With all that “A” list talent AEW has, they shouldn’t have a “B”, but as it’s been stated numerous times in the past “Rampage” is a “B” show.
However, I kind of like how they’re starting to lean into that and making it this weird, as Meltzer said “secret club” kind of show, and if they’re able to draw 500,000 eyeballs to it every week in the awful time slot it is in… Then it’s a success to me, and they should just keep doing what they’re doing.

I'm sure the lead in helped with the first quarter but I also think it would be unfair to say that the entire reason the number is up is because people watched a Star Wars movie beforehand when there have been plenty of big movies on since April. It probably helped the first few minutes but the entire first quarter did well which tells me folks tuned in to see Danielson and had some curiosity coming off of Wednesday. It would be disingenuous to say it's all one thing or another. From my understanding his statements revolve around the huge drop-offs that indicate it was the lead in...Same situation that allows them to rave about Big Bang Theory..You can't have it both ways

Lead ins can definitely help the first quarter of a show to an extent. I can buy they stick around and inflate the first 3-5 minutes of a show. But if they stick around beyond that, that's somewhat a credit to the show. Dave said the first quarter did exceedingly well and that's the average viewership of each of the first 15 minutes. So yeah, the first few minutes are helped by the lead in. But the last 10 minutes or so is your show keeping them around. Of course the latter part of the show dipped (as most Rampage shows do) but my larger point is it's part lead in but also part the show being interesting enough to keep people around for at least some period of time.

Absolutely yeah the lead in can only carry you so far unless people are just walking away. Unfortunately, when these things happen with Dave most of the comments are people wanting it to be cut or dry one way or the other. As stated in this thread that Dave also has a tendency to lean whatever way works for him financially so that has to be considered too. At times you will see people blaming the lack of a strong lead in for lower ratings yet when the ratings are much higher then expected they do not want to consider the strong lead in. I suck at explaining the garbage in my head haha.
