That said I do think you can take "stupid but dark" much too far and a good example of that is Joker wearing his own face as a mask for some idiot reason. I could go into a whole rant about how Joker (and by extension Harley Quinn) are probably the most misunderstood and misinterpreted comic characters this side of Rorschach and V, but I'll settle for agreeing with you and then gesturing in the general direction of the Jared Leto Joker.

I don't mind Batman being more gritty and less fantastic in his presentation, but I hate the argument that's he's supposed to be realistic. If you want realistic, go watch a Bourne movie. Why even bother with a guy who dresses up in a Bat suit? Didnt the Bourne movies even have to introduce some super steroids to justify why they can take that much damage and still be able to move? Bourne was Operation Treadstone, which was a brainwashing program designed to strip operatives of morality and raise pain tolerance, while Legacy was Operation Outcome, which was a drug-based program that increased intelligence, speed, and strength.

The other thing is that I feel like literally every live-action Batman since the Schumacher films has gotten this label. I suppose it's better than the "Bam! Pow! Superheroes aren't just for kids anymore!" articles you used to get with every live-action superhero flick up through at -least- the first Avengers. No lie, I started hearing the Bam Pow again in some circles when The Boys season one dropped.

So I had this dream where Michael Keaton came back to play Batman one more time, and he ended up trying to protect this one guy who had discovered the Fountain of Youth, and Bane came back but was really old and frail and he wanted to to find the Fountain for himself to become younger. Batman beat up a bunch of thugs using a Bat-a-rang with some kind of wire attached to it. Also instead of Alfred, Alicia Silverstone from Batman & Robin was his butler lady.
What if Batman ended up using the Fountain of Youth and became young Bruce Wayne from the original movies? We just need an actor who looks a lot like a young Michael Keaton and just have him take over the role and continue it in the same universe. Alicia Silverstone butler optional.

I only kill people when it's funny what could possibly be funny about killing you. Joker: "You won't kill me, out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you, because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever." Joker kills for his own amusement. And would get bored in a world with no Batman, or a Batman that kills. If Batman kills Joker, Joker wouldn't hate it, because he's dead, Batman did it, and he doesn't have to live in that world. Batman starts killing others while Joker is alive, and Joker just quits, because the "game" isn't fun anymore.

I want a Batman multiverse movie where Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson put their brains and cash together to build a time machine and go back in time to fight Hitler.
Also they all pick up Chris O’Donnell Robin and lawn dart his ass at Hitler and they both explode in a glorious explosion that they waste 75% of the budget on.

A big thing about a well written comic is internal consistency. I don't care if it's realistic, fantasy or whatever, just give me internal consistency. Does it make sense that Colossus can turn to metal and still move around? No, not in our world with our physics. In the X-men's world it makes sense. There are still limits and physics still matter, they're just different from real life. I enjoyed Nolan's take on Batman but I don't consider it the be all/end all. As many mentioned, the Animated Series was so fantastic at capturing the essence of Batman. It had all kinds of crazy stuff, even some of Batman's more ludicrous villains and yet it never felt ridiculous because it was internally consistent.

I don't get why the criminals don't just commit all their crimes during the daytime.

I don't get why the criminals don't just commit all their crimes during the daytime. the other dc heroes patrol the daytime, and lets face it they stand more chance against batman than they do superman, punch batman you hurt your hand... punch superman and you've probably just turned it into liquid.

The Nolan trilogy and the Arkham games are as realistic as Batman needs to be. Personally, I don't really care about "realism" as long as you can explain stuff within the universe you've created, but yeah, there's only so much you're going to get with a billionaire dressed in a bat-themed suit beating up criminals.
Though, I did enjoy The Batman.

Batman once showed off his realistic looking ass, codpiece and nipples, and y'all complained.

They could an adaptation of The Batman Who Laughs and just bring all sorts of other Batmen from different realities like Michael Keaton, Batfleck, Battinson, and throw in the Batman Beyond guy to take on all the evil versions of Batman. Like Joker Batman, Robot Batman, Evil Robin and Batman With Lots of Guns.

I'm already over the "let's team up all the old versions of this character" trope from Spider-Man: Far From Home (and I guess Into The Spider-Verse). It was fine, but I really don't need any more iterations on that theme.
