This is pretty risky, especially when its hard to get a PS5 as it is with the supply issues. Japan especially has so thoroughly deserted the Playstation in the last few years that I'm inclined to think that this could shrink Sony's share there even more.

Weird that this is getting done now with the PS5 being a little more accessible. Like I am still surprised the Ps5 Forbidden West Bundle is still available on PS Direct after 2 days
Scalpers haven't been able to great it and flip it

The thing is just so damn bulky. Add on the top of that Sony not really putting much investment in their Japanese studios and you have the perfect combination as to why Nintendo's dominating the top 30 physical sales week to week (with them getting all 30 spots now not an uncommon occurrence). |

They did this in Canada with the PS4, went up $50 about 6-12 months after launch. It was right around the time Microsoft released the Kinectless XB1 for $400. Pissed me off so badly, was a massive part of the reason I decided to go with XBox One. Also, Microsoft has announced they have no intention of raising the price of the Series X/S |

Also, Microsoft has announced they have no intention of raising the price of the Series X/S I still want to get a PS5 over a Series X because of the PS4 backwards compatibility and games like FF7 Rebirth. But with the supply issues still being a thing and Sony doing stuff like this, well, they're certainly making the Series X more palatable. |

More people are investing in PC gaming (where they can use their computers for multitasking) or the Switch. Heck even the Series S is getting some sales in Japan thanks to Game Pass, and this was after the disastrous run the Xbox One had over there. I get supply chain and inflation but... Good luck convincing people to buy a hard to get console now. |

It's the Sony cycle, in a way.
They did huge numbers with the PS2, got arrogant with the PS3 and initially were humiliated. PS4 did very well, and now their arrogance is likely going to be costing them again.

Glad I got out of video games almost 20 years ago. Only modern system I own is my Evercade. Can't beat 20 bucks for a cart with 2 t 30 games.
