Nah, not a weird post, it's a point that I wish were more beaten into the ground in wrestling discussions. Personal preference is not the same thing as overness or objective quality, and that's fine. It's really annoying when the three things get conflated. Like, as an example, a lot of people act like QT Marshall gets sheer apathy, when he's massively over and him getting his ass kicked is audibly a big crowd pleaser. Anyone who's apathetic to him or who doesn't like him should very much get to say so, but it's silly to then extrapolate that into saying he isn't over. The biggest example of this on this particular forum is Jay Lethal. Like, yeah, he's been around forever and is sort of bland, but he's a solid wrestler, usually has good matches, and is being used appropriately as a midcarder. Here, you would think he was Triple H in the middle of the reign of terror or something with the reactions he gets. There might be uh. Other really strong reasons why people have a visceral dislike of Jay Lethal.

I guess I can understand disliking Lethal for the same reasons one may dislike, say, Darby Allin (without getting into that particular can of worms any further). But, every time he's on screen here it's like OH MY GOD THIS GUY IS SO BORING WHY ARE THEY FORCING ME TO WATCH LITERAL PAINT DRY.

My stance on the Lethal subject, and other topics along that line, is really at the end of the day I don't care if other people enjoy something if I don't. People can pop for him or enjoy his matches or whatever, that's good for them, but even before the accusations against him I thought he was boring as f*** and see no reason to pretend otherwise or to mince my words in bashing him. Same if I dislike a show a lot of other people like, or when I say that contrary to general opinion the Cena / Styles SummerSlam and Rumble matches were awful mindless spotfests or whatever else.

Until Punk's hate-boner for him developed, I have never heard another wrestler (or even wrestling fans) say a single bad thing about Colt as a person. He just seems to be a cool dude that everyone likes.
As for Lethal, like I've been tired of the guy for a long, long time because of his ROH run that lasted what felt like forever. Like, the sexual harassment allegations play into my dislike of him, but it's not like he'd be one of my favorites if he was clean in that regard. And yes, Darby Allin is an example of someone I'd like a lot more without his own allegations.
But I do like Dutt's role as the stooge and Satnam just like... being there. I cackled when Darby bounced off him like he was a human pinball bumper.

Jay Lethal shows up just about every week on Dynamite in some capacity and if every week I'm talking about sexual harassment in the live thread, it's going to be shitty, it's going to drag everyone else's good time down, and it's going to hurt all the good time ha ha schtick I put out there. So instead I focus on how he's kinda crap and boring and let my disdain for him take on a turn where I can instead complain about how I see Jay Lethal more than I see my loved ones, because the alternative is to make everyone else feel worse about seeing his boring mug on TV than they already do. A lot of shit goes unspoken just for the sake of not killing the mood because live threads don't need to be f***ing worse.

The one message in your twitter is for sure Punk threatening to sue you, do not open it.

I still think that Colt was the one that screwed up on the WWE Lawsuit and that's why Punk went scorched earth cutting ties and trying to counter sue but after the Scrum and all that psycho rant about something that he "didn't care", I'm happy to see Colt Cabana on TV All Cabana did was get dinner with friends who were working for WWE after a show, this was proven in court. Punk accused him of being backstage at a show and his lawyers said that it would be an issue in the lawsuit (somehow) so Punk made him get his own lawyer. The prevailing theory has been that Punk realized he didn't have enough money to find two different court cases and was looking for a way to drop Cabana even though Cabana wanted to delete the podcast in the first place and Punk told him he would cover the legal fallout.

This is how I feel as well and the notion that it throws off discourse to give an honest opinion is the ridiculous part.

Those were two of the best back-and-forth spot fests I’ve ever seen in wrestling. Two classics I could watch over and over and never get sick of.

I don’t have any issue at all with people disliking Lethal for any reason. Opinions are subjective and I respect what everyone thinks, especially regarding something as, ultimately, silly as wrestling.
I was more just commenting on the fact that I’m relatively new to this forum and, from what I’ve personally seen, Jay Lethal is disproportionately disliked around here versus the wider wrestling audience.

Nothing wrong with what you said at all, and you're absolutely right lol When FAN hates someone, they HATE someone, and it's relentless. As I said, and it's calmed down now that she herself has slid down the card, but World Champion Britt Baker was getting 20 page threads here a week...

There's a difference between having an opinion and confirmation bias making that opinion fact. A lot of people on the internet are pretty terrible at realizing that. I'd say the worst place it comes up here is in ratings threads (in both WWE and AEW threads) where people look at numbers and think the ups and downs, whether overall or quarter hour, are due entirely to who they like or dislike being on the show or not. When the reasons for drops and bumps is a lot more nuanced and in-depth than "Guy I don't like is featured. Everyone agrees with me he sucks because the P2+ dipped about 30k people maybe" and almost always mostly have to do with things outside the show's control.

I used to be a regular frequenter/reader of 411Mania's comment section, and I gotta say, I'm completely blown away by how toxic it has gotten in a very short amount of time. 411mania.com/wrestling/colt-cabana-appears-aew-dynamite-chris-jericho-roh-world-title/Colt Cabana having a feel-good moment seems like something that people would generally like, but all I'm seeing on there is that it was "petty"... petty to let a guy on the roster have a match? I can always tell when Jimmy C has posted some new nonsensical hot take, because suddenly lots of people will all have the same verbatim nonsensical hot take in various comment threads. This week, suddenly Jericho was public enemy #1 so I knew he must have said something unflattering about Punk. Now it's all "Jericho intentionally helped run Punk off to get his spot" So Jericho has mind-control powers and made Punk insult his co-workers? Am I following the latest conspiracy theory? The victim-blaming is unreal and gross. Only linking that post because some people are going to want to take a quick gander for themselves. It's pretty insane at this point.

Personally, I don't care what the wider audience thinks of a wrestler. I only care about what I think of a wrestler.
That said, I'm willing to hold my hands up and admit when my tastes don't align with the masses. I've never been a fan of Adam Cole, but I won't deny he's over. Maybe it's the sound levels on my TV (which admittedly, have been a bit whack for Fite lately), but I'm not quite sure where the idea of Lethal getting big reactions is coming from.

I could go on all day about how so many wrestling fans need to chill out about some shit, but I’m literally on my train to work right now.

He's not getting monster pops, but he more often than not does get crowd chants and pops He split the crowd in the Darby match this week, there are people who are ok with seeing him out there, be it because of watching him for so many years or finding his wrestling good.
