I was at Glastonbury when Jacko died. We were completely cut off from civilisation as there was no phone signal with everyone trying to find out the news at the same time so for about 2 days there was this utter confusion as to whether he had actually gone or not. By the Saturday about half the crowd were wearing RIP Jacko T-Shirts from the clever sods on the merch stands who must have hit the jackpot that weekend.

Now the funeral is over perhaps we can get round to giving proper respect and mourn the death of another UK Matriach. Gwyneth Powell, who played Headmistress Mrs.McClusky in Grange Hill died the same day as Liz. The greatest head that ever presided over Grange Hill. I know she did Man Downs with Greg Davis and was on Pointless a couple of years back...and somehow still looked EXACTLY the same as she did in her Grange Hill prime.

On a Royal binge. Just watched The Queen starring Helen Mirren.
Not something I would have given a look at prior to Her Majesty's passing but a very well made film.
Going to give The Crown a look-see next I think.

I'd recommend the BBC documentaries "Elizabeth At 90", and "The Unseen Queen" which was filmed and narrated by the queen herself.

It is very well done and every performance is high quality from the main cast to supporting characters. {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Season 3 episode 3 is about Aberfan, the tragedy where a school in Wales was buried in a mudslide and over a 100 children perished. It is a rough episode to watch, especially as a parent

Supposedly a friend of Matt Smiths had supper with the Queen and Prince Phillip after the Crown came out. The friend asked if they watched it and Phillip said "f*** no."

Another story about Prince Phillip from the Invasion of the Dinosaurs Doctor Who DVD reveals he was responsible for directly ordering a preservation and second screening of a BBC adaptation of Orwell's 1984 when it was due to be wiped. The director of that adaptation was only one of two female directors working for the BBC at the time and would go on to direct two Doctor Who serials.

So one of the last Royal Mail stamps produced bearing E II R's likeness are celebrating G1 Transformers www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-62534916Does this mean the official declaration isn't the Ascension of King Charles III, but a self proclamation of - "Now that Queen Elizabeth II has fallen, I, Starsceam, am your new Queen"

What I heard from the insane person I work with is that she actually died back in February but the Commonwealth decided it was too expensive to put King Charles on all the money, so they hired a woman to get plastic surgery or a 3D printed face to pretend to be her until apparently we could all afford to put Charles on the money.
If you want a sample of the insane shit I have to listen to when I’m just trying to eat a sandwich at work.

Actually, in the first season, I thought few looked worse than Tommy Lascelles (whom I cannot STAND), the Queen Mother or the Duke of Windsor (… traitorous quizzling king). But it’s great entertainment and if it gets you both invested and interested in the topic, that’s a good thing, no?

Funny thing was Matt Smith was at a charity polo match I think about a year after the first season of the show aired that the Duke of Sussex was also at. The Duke came over with a big smile and said “Hullo, Granddad.” So I think some royals do or at least did watch. Coincidentally, they just announced season 5 will start airing on November 9th, so we have that to look forward to.

Coronation, Charles? This is bad comedy.

Buckingham Palace has just announced the coronation of King Charles III will take place on May 6, 2023. Details to come.
Don’t expect the thread to last THAT long, but it’s the next step, the next thing to happen.
