I was having a lie down in my bed when I heard fireworks going off. I got on my computer and well...

This is a first for most people in my family, neither of my parents were yet born when she first became Queen.
I've been alive for 38 Years now and this is a first for me, the passing of a Queen and soon the coronation of a King.

RIP Queen, 96 is a very good innings.
I have a sudden urge to listen to The Smiths now
Hey look, my 3000th post. It's what she would have wanted

Some longevity tidbits I saw on reddit, but have not verified myself She was queen for 30% of US history She was the titular queen in the I Love Lucy episode "Lucy Meets the Queen" ilovelucyandricky.fandom.com/wiki/Lucy_Meets_the_QueenAnd from the first book to the most recent film, James Bond has always served under her.

Charles is the oldest person to become Monarch at age 73. The previous being William IV who was 64.

There’s a good 75% of the UK population that have only know Queen Elizabeth to be the head of state, this is long expected but still very surreal and a sad day for sure

For the admittedly little I've read and seen about her, for someone born into that sort of unfathomable wealth and privilege, she seemed remarkably well adjusted and grounded. I mean, about as much as royalty could be. My condolences to her family and all of our UK posters. RIP

Rip Queen Elizabeth II, thought I’d never say that tbh, she’s been around always.

Regardless of all the many things that could be said about any of the royals, this is a watershed moment in world history now and I totally understand why so many are being affected by it. That’s a huge change, the loss of an omnipresent public figure who you’ve known as a constant your whole life.

No matter how you feel politically, either way it's another person who was around for most if not all our lives. So the feeling of change is there, which can be uncomfortable. And losing an iconic figure, of course.
I've removed the posts, so have edited the post to remove the quotes.
Edit: Same.

Seriously? Get this take out of here. I feel the lock may be coming/needed. Anyway either way it's another person who was around for most if not all our lives. So the feeling of change is there, which can be uncomfortable. And losing an iconic figure, of course. It’s not going to be locked. Possibly the most famous person in the world has just died and it’s a massive talking point. But I’m going to say this. If you’re against the Monarchy then that’s perfectly fine but maybe it’s not the time to express those opinions here.

This is how long it’s been. When she became Queen: - Harry Truman was president. - The Beatles were 9-12 years old. - Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Donald Trump were 5 years old. - The first Bond NOVEL was not yet published. -The Lord of the Rings books were not finished. -JFK was still in Congress -The Berlin Wall would not be built for 10 more years. -Josef Stalin still ruled the Soviet Union.

Wondering what the reginal name will be. Assuming Charles III but given the history of it I could see George VII.

As an American, I can't say I that follow stuff like the monarchy, but I do find it fascinating how much history this woman lived through...
RIP to the Queen.

RIP it's weird to think she's been queen since my grandparents were in their 20s. And the "Charles will never be king jokes" started in the late 80s.
Can't say she didn't have a full life.
RIP
