So does this mean that schools and businesses in London are closed and if so for how long? They just postponed a highly anticipated all women's boxing card. So I anticipate a week or so. It really all depends on the business. Bjt any events have been pushed back for the queens death. (I disagree with it but she was a famous figure) Quite a bit of football postponed too, although some went ahead this evening, and cricket and golf have both been called off tomorrow, although the current plan is for those two to resume on Saturday. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.
The problem with the announcement coming when it did is that a lot of businesses had probably closed for the day, so a lot of workplaces probably still aren't sure what's going on. And at the risk of sounding too blunt, there are quite a lot of businesses that probably wouldn't close unless legally forced to.

Very sad day. It was expected given her age but still no less devestating.
A wonderful monarch and leader, and an incredibly dignified woman who set a great example to all of us. I always had unswerving respect and admiration for her.
It will be surreal to live in a Britain where she isn't queen anymore, but I wish Charles all the best.
RIP Queen Elizabeth II
God Save The King!

We'll get the day of the funeral off, as a bank holiday (equivalent of a federal holiday), but other than that, business as usual, unless you work in the entertainment industry. Probably a good job Clash at the Castle was last weekend, rather than this weekend.

I suspect that many might not be able to afford to shoulder the cost of closing indefinitely, which will be why the people responsible are keen to have the cricket and golf start again at the weekend. Being in a customer service job, I'll be interested to see the extent to which the public goes about things as normal.

It feels surreal, there are grandparents who have only known her as the Queen. Her reign started before Elvis and The Beatles were even active.

It's going to be very weird to see Charles on all of the money and stamps now. And hearing God Save the King instead of Queen.

Iām not a monarchist, and personally think their best value is tourism. Thatās pretty much how I feel I donāt quite understand the whole supporting the royal family like theyāre your team and donāt have any strong feelings either way but I understand what they do for tourism and what they mean to others And as also said, thatās someone beloved family member and theyāll be grieving Will be weird hearing people sing god save the king instead of queen

No other way to describe it, it truly is the end of an era.

It must be weird to be Charles.
By all reports, he REALLY wanted to be King, but obviously there's only one of two conditions that could happen, and Elizabeth was not going to abdicate.
He was also literally born to do a single job, and he only technically started it at an age still past the age everyone else in the country retires.

Speaking as a Canadian who literally sees this woman's face on my money every single day...
This reminds me of when Pope John Paul II passed in 2005. Just this beloved, world-renowned figure that was around so long, many of us didnāt know a world without them. Doubly so for the Queen, especially given her longevity. There were actually people who were born, lived full lives, and died entirely within the years of her reign. Simply put, she was here so long that it just feels surreal for her to be gone. It's hard to grasp as reality. By all accounts, she was a sweet lady with a stern hand. May she rest in peace.

I have words to say about her. None of them are nice.
That is all.

This does ruin a running gag I had with friends that she was living at this point simply to spite Charles, and would wait until he was on his death bed to whisper the final words he'd ever hear, being that, "[she] won."
Anyway, 2022 continues to deliver the crazy. #neverchange
