So... according to his autobiography and a few interviews and such, Mick's retirement at NWO 00 was basically Plan B.
So... assuming the tag match with Foley and the Radicalz vs HHH & DX happens at No Way Out... what Mick gonna do at Mania?

In his podcast stated he wanted to retire before Mania. Said something that he preferred getting more attention in a main event at a "B" PPV than a midcard match at WM 2000.
He did not even like being in the 4-way match at Mania 2000

I'm assuming taking the family to Disneyland and maybe make an appearance at WrestleMania.

He'd be at home, washing his socks.

Retiring around November 99 is what he said in the book but that Austin being out injured meant he was reluctant to be in the shadow of that.

Yeah, he was was told he'd just retired by Vince after a Smackdown match with Venis in which he told Vince of the issues he was having, Austin's stuff pushed that back to NWO.
He swears that was meant to be it, but was "forced" to do Mania.

My recollection of this is completely lost.
HHH retired him at No Way Out in the Cell, right? So how come he was back 4 weeks later, main eventing Mania with a shaved head?
I know Linda brought him back but why did nobody care about Foley not sticking to his word?

I know Linda brought him back but why did nobody care about Foley not sticking to his word? He didn't shave his head until the commissioner run. He never wrestled a match with the shaved head. And in kayfabe Foley's dream was to main event Mania, so his character got to live it out (while as Foley said, destroying his actual shoot dream of retiring with dignity after a great match)

If they had a full roster the plan was IIRC
Austin as Heel v Rock or Austin for the title, does the Heel turn at this mania Taker v Big Show - a conclusion to their Unholy alliance storyline before taker went off HHH V Foley - im guessing they wouldve bumped the retirement match to Mania

I recall Austin v Big Show being the plan for 16 when Show debuted. Which would've been, just, unbelievably shit.

Yeah, he came back because Vince specifically asked him to. He didn't have the heart to tell Vince that he didn't really care THAT much about main eventing a 'Mania at that point in his career. He also A. knew he'd be paid well for it, at least, and B. He knew that he was still under contract, and that not coming back could potentially cost him a lot of money if Vince was vindictive about it. He insisted he didn't think Vince WOULD do that, but the fact that he COULD was troubling, especially since he'd not been paid for the Rumble or No Way Out paydays yet, which were quite sizeable and could be withheld if he was found in breach of contract.

We joke about it but Big Show had already made FOUR turns in the year between his debut and WM 16 -Debuted as a heel -Turned face at WM 15 -Turned heel to team with Taker in the summer -Turned face after Taker leaves in the fall -Turned heel after the Royal Rumble

Over 24 hours since this thread was opened and no one has given the response that we know should be made ?
Clearly Foleys original WM 16 plan was not to slam rib first into the Spanish announce table after coming off the second rope on the outside.

I don't know if this is just an urban legend but I recall hearing that Jericho was originally supposed to be in the 4 way at Wrestlemania and there's even a poster for it but he was replaced by Foley when Vince convinced him to return for the Mania main event. That's never made a lot of sense to me though. Jericho was a midcarder and had no story with HHH/Rock/Show at the time. He would have seemed like such an odd man out at the time.

Unless he took the time to Photoshop it, the poster is in his second book.

Was there not a rumour Rikishi was considered for the 4th man, as he was getting over quite quickly?
They should have had the Rock beat him at No Way Out and had HHH/Rock one on one. I'm sure Big Show could have been given somebody to work with at Mania.

WM 16 to me was the one misfire from WWF in the year 2000 on PPV. I know that Austin and taker were on the shelf but even still with the talent and buzz they had and I loved the look of WM that year but it just imo never hit the heights it should’ve.

I still find it incredible that they sacrificed the WM main event payoff with Rock winning the title, for the next PPV at Backlash. I mean, yeah, it generated a lot more money and buys etc, but they still made the main event at the millennium WM a complete non-entity. Interesting that Foley wasn't that bothered by the sounds of it, I feel they booked themselves into a corner by promising Big Show a WM main event so this looked a handy get out to spread the match out. Funny that almost immediately after getting his promise, they dump Show straight to OVW.
