IMO the worst are mobile game ads. They’re pretty much the Wild West in that they’re just allowed to completely lie about what they’re selling for whatever reason.

Hero Wars Ive seen ads showing it as a puzzle game with a stupid Wolverine lookalike, a prison game, a game with a pregnant princess, and one with an abandoned cat

Evony the King's Return bills itself as the game in the ads. I looked into this, and apparently it's not, most of the time it looks like freeware from 1998. The mobile game ads I hate the most are ones where they show someone failing over and over with a simple game, the one I find funny is "testing your brain age" with a puzzle that is made for 18 month old children, and the "person" fails it twice. The other mobile game ads I don't like are ones that are clearly adult in nature, yet it comes up on a game I'm playing that is for all ages. There's some real gross ones out there too.

i don't really mind ad's, but some of the actors in them need to have a look at themselves in the mirror and select a different direction with there life.

I like to think this is one of those things future generations will look back on and ask wtf were they thinking.
There was this beach body ready ad on the London underground that caused a fuss for undermining people's self esteem but I hate that was the exception, that's most ads. Ban them all! Especially in public places. Especially to kids. In the UK they've finally started banning some ads from where kids would see them, like junk food near schools or on kids TV. I can deal with movie, book, play and event style posters, anything else can f*** off.
Of course that's if there's future generations because of the environmental impact, direct from stupid f***ing electronic ads, encouraging overconsumption and green washing. So many of our greatest minds that could be used to better the world employed to sell ads.
That's before social media. Come in, wreck other businesses/subcultures, then once there's no competition become unusable garbage. Except it's worse than that due to the way their larger impact on society, the hate, propaganda, scams all to sell shit.
Talking of scams, magic internet money, Matt Damon saying fortune favours the brave, as people sucked in lose their fortunes. Don't these celebs and advertising platforms have enough money to at least do some basic quality control?

I don't mind a certain level of ads, especially on free services, but it really has become out of control. I have an ad blocker on my personal laptop which catches most ads on websites and places like YouTube, but I don't have one on my work laptop. Through work, I have to visit a lot of random websites and so many of them are virtually unusable these days because of the number of ads. Banner ads, pop-up ads, in-text ads, notification ads, mailing list ads... It's insane.

It's not maybe the most beginner friendly method, but a raspberry pi with pihole installed can block ads from every device on your network. I'm sorry, but ads are just too obnoxious nowadays.

I studied advertising in College, thought I was going to be a copy writer, didn't end up happening.
I will say I like the recent trend on podcasts/YT videos where the sponsors don't actually write copy and they just let the hosts say damn near whatever they want to promote the product, that's lead to some hilarious moments

But yeah this trend is loads better than like 20 people reading the same exact ad copy pretending it's their own words.

Yeah, I do appreciate when YouTubers or podcasters get creative with the sponsored content ad reads and/or add some humor into it. Well except when that mail order cereal company was sponsoring content, and some YTers/Podcasters ate and slurped the cereal directly into the mic.. f***ing No! Although back on topic. It does get repetitive if they just record the ad read once and play the same one everytime they go back to it.

the worst, which I Can't believe are legal in America, are the medicine ads. Like not over the counter stuff... but like ask your doctor about prescription medicine... like f*** no... I'm not asking my doctor about some random ass drug because it was on the TV. Oh man. We like to have Game Show Network as sort of our “play in the background” channel and I swear 75% of ads on that channel are for medicines. The most annoying one being some woman who no longer gets migraines and is able to drive whilst wearing the stupidest, fakest grin. Although these ads did give me one great laugh when one of the side effects read out was “a rash on the perineum”. This was then followed by text on the screen saying something like “the Perineum is the area between the genitals and the anus”. They could have just called it the gooch

I don't use Spotify
So if anyone here uses or used the free version ad supported tier, do ads play between songs when you play an album from start to finish?
I could possibly put up with ads during a shuffle play... Cause that's usually something in the background type stuff. But I find the concept of listening to “Dark Side of the Moon” for example and ad(s) playing between “Time” and “The Great Gig In The Sky” or any track for that matter like I dunno putting a Coca Cola bumper sticker on a Monet painting

Maybe cause I have add or just am broken but on my online content like YouTube my adds just give me time to read my phone...no maybe I am broken Yep same here. But I read my book or comic. The only streamming service I pay for ad free is Youtube. But that was more to get access to YT Music. Timed it the other day,on soome channel we get that shows westerns 24/7 an hour long show had 26 minutes of ads.... To add more ads they take the credits and added them at the bottom of the screen during the shows final scene. But 90% of what I watch is streamed or off dvd/blu ray. So I forget how much cable/satellitte tv is packed with ads.

It's gonna get worse when they make us do retina scans to make sure we're watching the screen in order to proceed with the content we want to watch. They're well aware people just go on their phone for longer ads. I haven't watched tv with any regularity in years now and going back to it is jarring with all the ad blocks.

They're well aware people just go on their phone for longer ads. I haven't watched tv with any regularity in years now and going back to it is jarring with all the ad blocks. If they could use this tech, they would.. been seeing patents like this for years but never gone the next step and actually manufacture. One patent I have seen is a tv with a camera and microphone and once an ad plays it displays text on screen that will tell you to stand up and say the name of the product if you don’t it will replay the ad and won’t go back your program until you do what it says. A couple of things why they have not moved forward with this.. they are waiting until a good chunk of the population has this tech before they roll it out… or I’m hoping it’s this, someone in charge has said ‘nope, this shit has gone too far’ . Advertising in its current state is horrible, but at least you can zone them out to the background.. but being forced to take them in… seriously, how is something like this legal?
