Val Venis vs. Dustin Runnels/Goldust: Who was the face/heel?

I would consider Val the face up until Goldust returned, where they essentially double turned. If nothing else, JR seemed to be pointing out Dustin's hypocrisy of how he dumped Terri so callously beforehand, but he seemed to shift towards condemning the way Val and Terri were taunting Dustin once he was in the paint again. And for how convoluted the face/heel lines in the Attitude Era were, a good way to tell who we were supposed to cheer for is who JR or Michael Cole were going for.
