What a shame...I do not think there has ever been a more natural in ring worker than Orton...Even when he just goes into auto pilot he is so smooth

Some sad news, but we'll see how it plays out before we talk about retirement.

Instead of the dirtsheets someone should really go to the papers with this information.

Just remember that Sheamus was basically being forced to retire like 5 years ago with a destroyed back… so hopefully Orton gets better.

Shawn's back was good to go by '99, he was just such a mess due to drugs and mental health issues that Vince wouldn't let him wrestle. God damn, I had no idea about this until right now. Vince said come back when you've become a church wrestling pioneer. Go take Bryan Danielson's money, then we'll talk.

What exactly is the nature of the injury? I don't know for certain but I wouldn't be shocked to learn it's wear and tear... I mean his finisher is literally jumping and landing flat on his back If dude acted like he cared more often he'd probably be an S tier wrestler... he just didn't like 98% of the time. However his last few years he was at least firing on all cylinders the majority of the time and if this is it he went out on a hell of a high note.

Damn, I always said he wouldn't be fully appreciated until he retires and hoping he gets to come back and go out way he wants to but he shouldn't be ashamed otherwise if he can't

I do wonder how much that f***s with his shoulders too since he's basically had those be bad for a long time as well. I don't remember a lot of his major injuries being with his legs. It has been the shoulders, back and I want to say he messed up something just taking the garbage out

If is indeed a big enough deal that Orton either needs to retire or scale back over it that's definitely unfortunate but he certainly shouldn't feel any regrets over it. Going for 20 years with tons of successes and ending on a hot streak where a lot of it was devoted to putting over someone new, there are a hell of a lot worse ways to go out. He might need to scale back on doing the RKO at least. That cannot be good for a bad back.

Might be a good idea to move to doing it more like a Diamond Cutter of just dropping down, and also possibly shift to the punt as his primary finisher.

Tho so was the Curb Stomp and they brought that back

Back injuries are one of those things that can really spiral into something worse, especially as the body gets older. Hopefully that isn't the case (and these threads without any sort of cited source in the OP are really sketchy besides). But if Orton has to call it a career, he's certainly had a really prestigious one.

Selfishly I really wanna see him go out on his own terms, but if this is the end for Raaaaaaaaandy, then man, what a hell of a run it was.

If this is it I hope he at least can come back for one match to at least get a better sendoff then getting brutalized by Roman and the DUI Twins. Something like him and Riddle beating the Usos (who will have hopefully lost the belts by now) on a PPV.
Dude definitely deserves it with the career he has had. Twenty straight years continuously in the WWE while working high on the card for almost literally all of it is an incredible feat that was never done and likely will never be done again.
