If they want to go back to the original news parody format, I think Kevin Nealon would be a good fit.

He was fine. The bigger problem I have is that there's nothing that really differentiates these type of shows from one another. They're all saying the same thing, with the same angles. (It's in large part why Samantha Bee's show failed. She was saying what the rest of them were, but she wasn't as talented and therefore was just....there.)
Whoever the new host is needs to lighten it up a bit. I'm not suggesting that they ignore the hot button issues, but as someone else pointed out, it gets so heavy that you're less entertained and more stressed from watching

Samantha Bee's show didn't fail - it literally ran for over five years. No show that runs a literal half decade by any metric is a failure. She also had Stewart's best writers defect from the Daily Show to join her when she made the move and it was hilarious. And Bee's angles were significantly different. She had the most diverse writers room and it showed.

That's it.

www.vulture.com/article/daily-show-guest-hosts-2023.htmlWhen The Daily Show comes back in January, it will be with a line-up of celebrity guest hosts, including among them Al Franken, Sarah Silverman, Leslie Jones, John Leguizamo, DL Hughley, and a slew of others. Plan is a more solid relaunch for the fall.

Yeah, but I will say maybe a change in format wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. when Jon started the Daily show was more of a celebrity gossip show more than an actual news show... Jon managed to pivot into more of a parody of the 24 hour news channels with Colbert as the parody of the pundits on those networks. Trevor took over and kept kinda doing the same thing, it might have been fear of not wanting to change too much with the new host. of the spin offs Personally I think John Oliver managed to differentiate himself the most from the Daily Show style, granted he gets to condense things into a week (and focus more tightly on specific topics because of it) instead of trying to crack jokes on stuff happening that day.

John Oliver slaughters anything the Daily Show can crap out. They can choose anyone to be host, unless it’s f***ing Oprah, LWT is gonna slaughter them.

I want to see an Even Stevphen episode with co hosts Carell and Colbert
Or an episode where Lewis Black just yells the news, even if it's just for one segment.

From what I'm seeing the "Guest Host Era" begins tomorrow night, with SNL alum Leslie Jones behind the desk.

So they announced the next batch of guest hosts, and the correspondents are finally getting their shot behind the desk -
It's gonna be really interesting to see some of these guys have to play the straight man in the comedy bits. And I'm really looking forward to seeing Lewis Black host.
