I'm not gonna trash the first one, I know it was a success. But was it really such a pop cultural phenomenon that a sequel nearly thirty years later seems worthwhile? We're not talking Star Wars here. Same could be said of the likes of Jumanji, Bad Boys, and Top Gun, none of which were as successful as Twister, yet spawned legacy sequels which made a ton of money. Granted, I'm struggling to think of any way a Twister sequel could possibly be any good. No doubt there will be a heavy handed climate change message that will provoke intense reactions from the anti-woke and climate change denial communities, so that's gonna be torturous to sit through.

We need a Dee Snider cameo via a line that "The only thing that defeat a Twister... is a Twisted Sister."

Not gonna lie, I keep misreading the thread as "Twitter sequel", and thinking "damn, Elon Musk works fast".

Why?
Was Twister really that big a deal and nostalgic enough to warrant a long-awaited sequel?
Just do another film about a twister without it being a sequel. I remember enjoying Twister though.

It did earn just shy of $500 million on a sub-$100 million budget and was the second highest grossing film of its year, behind only Independence Day. So…it was definitely a big film.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

I remember it was popular. But i havent heard anyone mentioning it for years. It seemed largely forgotten. Unlike Independence Day which did get discussed and stuff online still

Why? The first one opened the floodgates for the worst hot takes out there an... oh, Twister. Thought it was something else.

Didn't we already try this with Independence Day, and that sucked monkey nuts? How is THIS gonna do any better? Better twister effects than the 90s, more sheds with a million scythes in them?

Because the big Hollywood studios aren't going to take a chance on an original idea anymore, as success isn't guaranteed. At least a legacy sequel has a chance of financial success based on nostalgia alone. It's quite possible this started as an original idea for a disaster movie. But some suit got a hold of it and suggested it be turned into a sequel for Twister, because known IPs sell.

In this one, the surviving castmembers of the first movie now have to team up WITH a tornado to take on an even BIGGER threat!

My sister saw this stupid f***ing movie when she was like 10 on a school trip and since then gets super f***ing annoying any time there is so much as a cloud in the sky. I have never seen the whole movie but f*** it and this sequel.
