Kinda surprised we didn't already have one, seeing how many of us play. I recently started replaying older games I either never finished the first time around, or that I haven't played in ages. I beat Pokemon White last week and have spent the last few days working on X. And with Scarlet and Violet coming out in less than two weeks, I figured we could use a place to talk about the games, old and new.
To start us off, I guess I'll just post my teams from White and X. I have random thoughts about both games, which I'll hold off on for a bit.
My White team: Emboar Krookodile Sygilyph Elektross Carracosta Amoonguss
And for X: Greninja (Waterfall, Nightslash, Grass Knot, Ice Beam) Venusaur (Energy Ball, Sludge Bomb, Leech Seed, Earthquake) Gardevoir (Psychic, Moon Blast, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball) Heliolisk (Thunderbolt, Volt Switch, Surf, Focus Blast) Hawlucha (Flying Press, Fly, Acrobatics, Rock Slide) Aegislash (Shadow Ball, Iron Head, Sacred Sword, King's Shield)
(I don't remember all the moves for my White team off hand)
So yeah, this is the place discuss all Pokemon games from Gen 1 all the way up to Gen 9 and hopefully, beyond!

Been kind of wanting to replay either BW2, HGSS, or some version of Red & Blue for a bit. Probably won't soon at this point due to SV about to come out but they've been on my radar for awhile.
I dunno, last year I went kind of heavy on the Pokemon - did runs of Crystal, Black, and Brilliant Diamond - but this year it's just been Legends so far.

I want to do a marathon of the remakes of the first four gens at some point. Since I won't have the new games until Christmas. I want to run different teams than I normally do, although in three of the four, I'll inevitably end up with the same 'Mons I always use. HGSS could be interesting, though. There are a lot of really good Pokemon available early that I always skip for my usual core of Typhlosion, Ampharos and Heracross. But I'd love to try running Steelix and Gengar, for example.

managed to get the Scarlet/Violet OLED Switch from work... it's fancy >_> Surprised that we haven't heard the starters evolutions yet... also mimic pokeyman was announced earlier. Apparently one version appears to only be available in Go.

just from my experience at work Scarlet seems infinitely more popular on prelaunch.
Most seem to have either gotten both or just Scarlet... while a handful have gotten just Violet.

I'm still on the fence here, I boycotted Sword and Shield, and I'm still sore about Dexit...
That said if I did get back into this gen I'd be picking Violet... I love the future hoverbike Pokemon.

I think I'm leaning Scarlet but I kind of need to see what the exclusives are, I really never care about the mascots.

I'm getting Violet since I typically get the Blue editions. Gonna pick the grass kitty, as per my tradition of picking grass starters all the time.

Not going to go into specifics but I'm really digging the leaks for SV. Just a ton of great designs and great names going around, some very creative stuff going on. If anyone's curious about the amount of new Pokemon (not counting forms) but would rather avoid risking seeing other information by looking it up, here's the number and nothing more - {Spoiler}{Spoiler}103.

I don't know which one I'll be getting first, I just asked for one or the other for Christmas. I already know I'm starting with Quaxly, because I love ducks lol
On the older games front, I beat X the other night, with the team I detailed above. Unquestionably my favorite team I've ever used in a Pokemon game. I loved my Sword team (Cinderace, Toxtricity, Hatterene, Barraskewda, Obstagoon and Corviknight), but this team definitely tops it.

I ended up springing for Scarlet. Think I have a team in mind. If anyone's curious, though it has a bunch of unannounced things in it - {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Thinking Tinkaton, Annihilape, Toedscruel, Glimmora, Espathra, and Quaquaval, though really tempting to slot Palafin, Dudunsparce, and Meowscarada in there.

Bought Scarlet off the eShop because I had $10 worth of gold coins stored up, so got the game discounted. Have it pre-loaded and ready for launch.

probably going to trade in Gotham Knights towards Pokemon... maybe a few other games... Sonic Frontiers is on the pile of possibly.
and Get most of my money back on both of those... and wait for a price drop if GK has DLC I want to check out...

I went in wanting to use the boy PC for once, but make them as hyper feminine as possible. Despite SV's shitty clothes selection I thoroughly succeeded

How noob friendly will this be? I haven't played a Pokemon game since Ruby and Sapphire back on the GBA, but have some spending money and need a new game.

How noob friendly will this be? I haven't played a Pokemon game since Ruby and Sapphire back on the GBA, but have some spending money and need a new game. Pretty much every Pokemon game is designed as if it's someone's first, down to telling you moves' effectiveness on your opponent if you've fought that Pokemon at least once before, so I wouldn't let that stop you, you won't be lost by any means. Though this one adds a bunch of new stuff not in other games so it might make it a bit jarring if afterward you wanted to double back to BDSP or something. In terms of battle mechanics though, while there've certainly been new moves and abilities and stuff along the way, the most substantive differences in the battle system between Gen 3 and now (besides a revolving door of one-game-only battle mechanic gimmicks, this one's being a type change thing called Terastylizing) are just 1), every move is now individually designated to be either special or physical instead of it being determined by the move's type like in Gens 1-3, and 2), they added a new type, Fairy, in Gen 6 and with it changed some of the existing type interactions, e.g. Steel no longer resists Dark and Ghost. Past that it should feel familiar.
