(First ever thread, no pressure)
Had they never used white rabbit or wayward sons or where is my mind, for example, I'd have never known that these songs existed, obviously there's a ton of music made all the time everywhere and we all have our taste but:
What are your top 5 (or whatever number of your favorite) classic songs which are not that popular globally and may be with a reason why they're so special to you.
As a 31 year old dude, who grew up in a small developing country, who got influenced by "the western media" around 2005 on-wards there is a lot that I have missed out on, especially the music scene. A lot of the discoveries were made thru WWE and late night talk shows or generally being part of mainstream pop culture but there is a lot that is out there that I NEED to listen to.
Also, how do I find good new classic music, may be some free online radio or something which airs good music. Anybody uses something like that? Should I have just googled it?

Spotify or Pandora or any of those music streaming apps. Those are the best ways to discover 'new' music based on music you already like. Type an artist you want to explore, you get all their recorded songs (or most of them) as well as suggestions on similar artists.

Meatloaf is a strange case of having one of the best selling rock albums of all time but there are huge swaths of people who don't know him. If you don't know him, check out the albums Bat out of Hell and Bat out of Hell 2. Those are what he's best known for and his highest quality stuff.

Mainstreams a tricky word, all of these could be considered mainstream but in the spirit of the thread they're older songs that you might not have heard through recentish American pop culture and/or wrestling.
Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash Moonlight Shadow - Mike Oldfield Ghost Town - The specials Edge of seventeen - Stevie Nicks Friday I'm in Love - The Cure Jolene - Dolly Parton If you could read my mind - Gordon Lightfoot The whole of the moon - the Waterboys Gypsies Tramps and Theives - Cher
If you haven't already watch Donnie Darko for a fine 80s soundtrack.

This one was the ending song for The Raccoons because the singer was one of the voices for part of the show. I know I can't find it on Spotify so I just check it out occasionally on youtube.

Most NWOBHV songs are classic but other than hearing old Def Leppard tunes or the off Maiden songs on classic rock radio none of it is really what I'd call mainstream.

The only one I can think of is a song use for Perry Mason and Matlock (same producers in 1980s) song used around 86-87 for bar scenes which is "You Hate Goodbyes." I think the song was only made for those shows as it features just four lines of lyrics and almost all background music. But it's a beautiful country song and I really wish I knew more about the origin.

Mainstream is tricky but these are good and not really talked about too much anymore.
