Gorilla Monsoon: An Italian guy, Gino Marella, from Upstate New York who portrayed a Savage giant from Manchuria, China. Then later became a Loveable play by play commentator.

The Great O'Khan is also not Mongolian. He's great, just not Mongolian! I do love the guy, but I admit to always being kind of puzzled with his sorta-Mongolian, sorta jiang-shi Chinese vampire presentation, especially since they don't really hide he's definitely a Japanese guy. I dunno who said it, but "mongolian version of a weaboo" would apply I think

My understanding of British wrestling from the 60s to the 2000s is that it was an endless war between raceswapped guys and fat guys that was so bloody that the leader of the fat guys went to America to become a sea monster. I also feel like the British heels managed to somehow be even lazier with names and backgrounds and such for said raceswapped dudes. Like, I still can't get over Kendo Nagasaki just as an actual name. Still surprised he didn't end up with a tag team partner named Katana Hiroshima or something. There was some pretty on-the-nose stuff in that era, like a black wrestler called Kid Chocolate. I’ve only skimmed the thread but has anyone mentioned the Youngbloods? All portraying Native Americans, but all Latin Americans. Also, early nineties WCW jobber the Mongolian Mauler, actually a fat white guy from upstate New York.

What some people forget is, early on they did announce him as being from the Polynesian islands. I think during his WWF title run, they amended it to "Polynesian islands, but representing Japan..."

Ha!
I often wonder, in the days when Vince sr. would 100% book around ethnicity, if someone who was OF said ethnicity ever really challenged someone performing it.
As in, do you think an actual person from China ever went up to Monsoon and started speaking Mandarin?

This probably doesn't really count, but does anyone else remember Booker T in TNA suddenly doing an accent and saying "in my country" in promos?

Wasn’t Muhammed Hassan Italian? Wasn't he at least half-Arab? Pretty sure he was entirely Italian. I believe Daivari talked about it at one point.

John Tenta was billed as being from the Great Barrier Reef during his Dungeon of Doom days. The man was clearly not actually a shark/man hybrid so I call baloney on that one.
Also, in an ironic natural fact, most reef sharks aren’t that dangerous to humans. They pretty much have to be seriously provoked to attack. So double science-fail for you, Taskmaster.

I believe Palestina from the original GLOW was a white lady.
Speaking of which, Cheerleader Melissa played Raisha Saeed in TNA.

Damien Demento, however, was absolutely from the Far Reaches of your mind. As if we need more reason to dislike him, Ultimate Warrior's gimmick was a racist caricature of a Parts Unknownian.

There was a few weeks between the end of his yodelling gimmick and when he joined The Real Americans where Cesaros entrance video had German flag graphics. Can't remember if he was billed from Germany though but i assume he was.
Also Kofi being billed from Jamaca.
Also was Tensai meant to be Japanese? They never really specified.

While they never mentioned it by name(Albert/A-train), they did bring up in passing that he use to work for them before going to Japan to reinvent himself.

Ricochet as Luchador from Boyle Heights Prince Puma Similarly, the Filipino-Hawaiian Jeff Cobb portraying the Spanish Matanza Cueto. Did Mil Muertes ever have his nationality mentioned? Because I know Ricky Banderas is Puerto Rican, and not Mexican. Or was his nationality just "dead guy"?
