You can look at Fightful's Patreon and see they have over 8.5k followers, all paying at least $5 a month for access. I don't know how many people Fightful is paying out of those subscriptions or what overheads Fightful has, but that's a tidy sum each month. SRS has his quirks but I think they’re the most accurate place for news these days. I happily pay for Fightful Select.

I heard Big Money Meltz lights his cigars with hundos... >_> -source platypusnews.real

Yeah no it's super not no money but even that's only for a really major publication pushing out actual scoops. Once you factor in Patreon fees, website hosting costs, and paying contributors though, that's leaving something for SRS that's definitely not poverty wages, but the CM Punk saga isn't helping him buy a house or anything.

Not buy one, but it's definitely enough to stay ahead of a Mortgage if he already HAS one.

And it's money the wrestling journalists can't say no to because they either get it now or never. But the idea that enough people even care about this drama to get them significantly richer? That just seems out of touch with how many people actually care about this.

Wild that they likely make five figures a month off of Punk's bullshit I guess if you can get your bag, get it lol

I feel like 99% of the defenses of Punk come from people who never grew up beyond the point where “he/they started it” is a valid excuse for bad behavior.
Because that’s literally 99% of Punk’s behavior in a nutshell.

Okay this got me interested and I decided to go look up one of the sites you can use to gauge Patreon growth from public-facing numbers And the numbers mostly tell me that the Gripebomb did actually lead to a pretty big skyrocket in interest on the reporting, but otherwise the peaks and valleys speak to a fair lot of inconsistency in how much interest there is in Fightful reporting. I don't actually know what happened on April 4th of this year to lead to that one spike you see, maybe someone else can remember this year enough to know what went down then. But what it seems like at a glance is that this story isn't meaningfully driving too much meaningful interest on the Patreon level. There's fall-offs every month I guess from a combination of people unsubbing after they got the story they wanted and/or from losing interest in wrestling, and then there's little spikes and upticks here and there beyond that. If you look in particular at the 8552 the chart has as of the time i'm writing this, and then the number on August 26th of 8300 flat, that gives you about 252 subscribers who could be chasing this story in particular. Or about $1,260. That's not nothing. I could go for 1,260 right now myself. But even that is only roughly even with how many paying subscribers Fightful had in July, which is decently below each of the past three months before then from its recent-high in April. It's real money, but however it's split or eaten into by fees, SRS probably isn't going to look back on late August 2023 as the golden time he wishes he could return to so he could be hand-fed grapes and live a life of luxury.

April would be the post mania rumors of Vince’s return due to the unexpected main event result and the raw after mania having a lot of Vince booking tropes. Only a modest bump for Jan when the Saudi takeover rumors were at their peak.
