Usually when people torch their reputations it is because they do actual crimes, or make racial/homophobic statements. Has anyone ever torched their reputation doing whatever the hell Punk did? I’m not just talking wrestling, I’m talking in any type of mainstream media

He committed an absolute absurd amount of crimes but he was still playing in the NFL until he gave himself frostbite and refused to use a legal and safer helmet. He then went away for a little, was on good behavior, and then stripped himself in the middle of a game and danced half-naked off the field after being told he wasn't going to play any more due to injury

I’m not just talking wrestling, I’m talking in any type of mainstream media This sort of reputation-destroying blow-up is more common in social media spaces and among Youtubers, I feel. Just a few months ago, one big channel, iilluminaughtii, basically self-destructed over a narcissistic 'apology' video trying to frame a bunch of her ex-friends for abusive behaviors and showing off one friend's suicide note. Only for those friends to start comparing notes, showing the truth behind some really distorted claims, and unearthing sockpuppet accounts she was using to slander the others, harass their friends, and stir up problems. Now her videos are doing less than a tenth the traffic they were at the start of the year and she's trying to sue a former partner to take their house for backing up their ex-mutual friends on their claims about her. Other Youtubers get torn to shit for picking fights with other Youtubers all the time. Which makes sense, because online personalities have to be a little more 'real' and on the ground level than other sorts of stars, and rarely have any kind of real media training. They don't have publicists to protect them from this sort of thing. Wrestling isn't as ground level as a lot of Youtubers tend to be in terms of how accessible they are or how parasocial stuff can get, but it's a carny-ass business with people who tend to be a lot closer to ordinary folks than to the top A-listers. Throw in a healthy industry of insider reporting that's actually of interest to a lot of its fanbase, and you get a real recipe for craziness. Actors go apeshit on set all the time, we just rarely hear about it when it's contemporary.

I’m not just talking wrestling, I’m talking in any type of mainstream media I think the closest analogue is other wrestlers, specifically the backstage bullies of old. Guys like Bradshaw and Holly who were notorious even back in the day but have been heavily reevaluated as social mores have changed and wrestling fandom has become more diverse in thought. Punk’s idea of being a locker room leader is wildly out of time, which would be bad enough if he hasn’t been in a paranoid spiral for over a year. But Punk’s chaos wouldn’t be cutting so deep if it wasn’t negating every reason fans rallied behind him in 2011. The contrast between “Voice of the Voiceless” Punk and the Punk of today is the biggest disillusioning shift for a wrestler’s fans that doesn’t include a serious crime. And AEW was really the perfect stage to expose Punk’s true self (or at least who he grew into, to give the benefit of the doubt). AEW is basically an answer to nearly all of Punk’s criticisms of WWE’s monopoly, as if WCW was reincarnated with ROH’s soul. And yet he still has to rebel against the system, even if it means becoming a WWF backstage politician of yore and founding his own version of the B.S.K. That there’s no foundational ethos to CM Punk other than being the magical brat from the Twilight Zone who wishes those who displease him to the Cornfield absolutely sucks.

I wonder if Bryan is returning early as he has a history with Ricky and they can do the "you challenged the dragon, and you'll get the dragon... THE AMERICAN DRAGON."

It isn't really related to the broader point but illuminaughtii's whole story is so much dumber when you remember the instigating event for the whole thing being her randomly accusing I think it was Legal Eagle of plagiarizing her just for that to turn up her plagiarizing a bunch of other people. On every possible level it was a completely stupid, self-inflicted series of wounds.

Well now Mox vs OC is confirmed to main event All Out, meaning Ricky will get a new opponent?
Tony used BOTH of his "break glass in case of emergency" ride or dies.
That's how you know he's pissed.

It was the CM Punk Best in the World documentary that really started to chip away at his presentation for me I just always remember his comments about the Miz main eventing wrestlemania and he was so bitter about it and I was “I get you wanted it as well dude but Miz was on fire at the time” I bet he thinks about Miz main eventing when he never will all the time Does……does he think if it had been him instead of Miz things would have been any different? It would have been Punk playing third fiddle to John and Dwayne and getting concussed. Instead he got to cut the pipe bomb and be the biggest thing in wrestling four months later. Does he really think Miz got the better end of the deal? ?

I think his Wrestlemania main event obsession was an early sign of his persecution complex. I mean he defended the title at Mania so he has main evented no matter where the match was on the card (Summerslam this year promoted three main events so there can be more than one) but he stubbornly sticks to "If I didn't go on last then I didn't main event!" Dude not only defended the main title but was a victim of the streak, won MiTB, and had a match with a legend like Rey. The guy has an A-tier Mania record by moaning about not main eventing he is just trying to victimize himself.
His feud and Mania match with Orton was crap I'll grant that.

I agree with Punk that there is only one Main Event, and it is the match that goes on last. CM Punk never had that, so he's right that he never main evented 'mania.
Main Event in 2012 was without question Rock vs Cena, which was a match that had over a year of build, while Punk was cooled off after Trips beat him at Night of Champions and that stupid "Safe Working Environment" storyline.
