Johnny Polo was basically the exact polar opposite of the original Raven character. I remember watching WrestleMania X with my friends in the late 1990s. I told them that Johnny Polo was Raven and NO ONE believed me. This despite its not like he wore a mask or something. They were pretty obviously the same guy physically. As you said just polar opposite characters.

How about going from a tough cowboy, to being just a rebellious "bad ass" outlaw guy, to then being a man utterly obsessed with asses, to being a gay but-not-actually-gay guy? In the span of like six years, at that?
Talking about Mr. Ass himself, Billy Gunn of course. The crazy part to me, is that he wasn't even really a different character throughout all these gimmicks. He was canonically the same dude the whole time.
Also, this is probably the most times the word "ass" has ever shown up in one of my posts.

Johnny Polo was basically the exact polar opposite of the original Raven character. That was the whole point of the character, wasn't it? Even in ECW he was a rich kid who lost his mind and wanted to take out frustrations from being a failson I don’t think he was supposed to be a rich kid in ECW. With him being billed from The Bowery, I think the idea was he was from an expected broken home in the slums. It wasn’t until WCW with the “coming home” storyline, where they decided to say, “actually, he comes from a perfectly stable wealthy family, and he was making up all the stuff about abuse and growing up in a poor broken home.”

Mike Shaw? From wrestler (Mike Shaw/Makhan Singh) to mental patient (Norman the Lunatic) to religious figure (Friar Ferguson) to disgusting joke (Bastion Booger). You forgot his trucker gimmick that came in between The Lunatic and Friar Fergeson. Voodoo witch doctor to Pimp is pretty extreme Papa Shango --> Kama Mustafa --> The Godfather. Quite the interesting changes Charles Wright went through throughout his career. That's not all of it: Papa Shango to Kama, The Supreme Fighting Machine to Kama Mustafa of The Nation Of Domination to The Godfather to The Goodfather in Right To Censor and then back to The Godfather.

When Raven debuted they referenced Johnny Polo. The "Bowery" billing was a wink and a nod to rich kids poverty cosplaying in NYC.

I told them that Johnny Poll was Raven and NO ONE believed me. This despite its not like he wore a mask or something. They were pretty obviously the same guy physically. As you said just polar opposite characters. I'll admit, when I first saw Raven, Johnny Polo wasn't a thought in my mind. It was only when I found out he played Johnny Polo before did I connect the dots. I'm sure I wasn't the only person to think that. That was how dramatic the character change was.

When Raven debuted they referenced Johnny Polo. The "Bowery" billing was a wink and a nod to rich kids poverty cosplaying in NYC. For those who haven’t it seen it, it was a fairly drawn out debut. For weeks Stevie Richards was bragging that he was going to bring Johnny Polo to ECW. Joey Styles and others kind of played it off that Richards was full of crap. Then one week Scott Levy comes out in the middle of a Stevie Richards segment in full Raven character and Joey Styles is shocked.
