I don’t think we’ll know for sure until we see how they book the guys that beat them. Yeah, it's this. All depends on how the end is booked. Even though they're clearly the most over act on the roster by a long, long way there's people who insist it all sucks and why doesn't the guy they like just have a month long reign and then they go back to it? They gotta stick the landing. And they haven't done a reign like this since Andre beat Hogan in 1988. A lot has changed since then, so it's won't be like that, but they gotta stick the landing. A lot of people have their little hearts set on Cody Rhodes, I think they'll be disappointed. And no, I don't have any better options. Yeah unfortunately it almost HAS to be him...Using someone already active on the roster makes no sense after this long...Why didn't they challenge earlier? If they did why didn't they win? Where is their Rocky road to glory montage? Basically has to be Cody for it to make sense...The problem is if it will actually feel genuine now...That injury was an amazing spectacle during the Rollins match but I feel like it really messed with the momentum of Cody's rise.

The complicated thing here is, he’d probably feel less of a contender and be back in the pack with the others if he WASN’T hurt and he WAS still appearing on TV every week. The whole part-timer kick that started in 2011 with Rock’s return for the Cena feud created this whole issue where the thing that fans resent the part-timers for is precisely what makes them the big deal… That they DON’T show up every week, so when they DO show up, it’s important. I don’t know how you put that toothpaste back in the tube, though.

If it ends how I'm hoping at Wrestlemania (Sami/KO beating Usos and Cody beating Roman) and that show is the fall of the Bloodline it'll be my favorite WWE story since HHH/Batista in 04/05. I'm confident in the Uso/Sami/KO part happening. The Roman thing all depends on The Rock though. If he's available you obviously do that match but Roman pretty much has to win that one if it happens and I can't see him dropping the title at any non-WM PPV so then you're looking at another year and holding off on him dropping the title to WM 40. I don't think they have another year of stuff to keep fans this invested though. The group/angle is so over right and ticket sales and ratings are up but if Roman walks out of this Wrestlemania still with the title I think the momentum will rapidly decline. This April is the perfect time to pay it off. Yeah unfortunately it almost HAS to be him...Using someone already active on the roster makes no sense after this long...Why didn't they challenge earlier? If they did why didn't they win? Obviously no one is ever going to choose to get injured but I remember thinking at the time that if it HAD to happen the timing of it was probably perfect for Cody. He got the epic return at Wrestlemania, the heroic win at Hell in a Cell and an expected return timeframe that perfectly lines up with a potential Rumble return/win. He wasn't on TV wrestling Baron Corbin every other week throughout the fall to potentially lose momentum. He left at his hottest and he'll return at his hottest.

It might but that’s more of a function of not having a decently built undercard than it does anything. It HAS to be Cody because he hasn’t been around to be beaten. Cody coming back at Rumble, winning and just beating Roman is just so boring after two years as champion. It reeks of “just get the belt off Roman” than it does any natural story.

They already have the story. Cody spelled it out in his first promo back the night after Wrestlemania and re-iterated it in his video this week. He wants to win the title his father failed to capture and also the title he himself spent the first half of his career reaching for but also didn't manage to get. The second generation guy who is now standing on his own and has never been world champion v the second generation world champion who is surrounded by his family who help him win all the time. There's over 2 months between the Rumble if that's when Cody returns and Wrestlemania. They have plenty of time. I don't get how it would seem rushed or unnatural. That's assuming it's even Roman/Cody. There's still a chance it's Rock.

Regardless, a lot of fans will still look at how much of a slog it was to get through much like people did with Triple H's reign from 2002-2005. That said, there are other factors to consider here like the build up to the big match at Wrestlemania that leads to him being dethroned, who's facing him at Mania (Is it Cody? Is it Sami? Is it Rock?), and how the babyfaces are booked afterwards. Nothing may never change how overly drawn out his reign was, but if it goes a long way in helping people get behind the babyfaces, it can be looked upon more favorably.

It'll be remembered for running too long and Sami Zayn needing back surgery from carrying it once he was introduced to it.

It's gotten better as it's gone on. The additions of Solo and especially Sami have made all the difference.
