It's only a couple weekends away and the only entrants confirmed for the men's are Kofi Kingston, Santos Escobar, Ricochet, Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley, and Seth Rollins. The women's side only has Liv Morgan, Candice LeRae, and Rhea Ripley. That's kind of concerning. Can't think of which ones right now, but I'm sure that there have been years where only a handful were announced as for sure in the match. I mean, 2001's the only for sure ins we had were the 5 the video package covered IIRC (Austin, Rock, Taker, Kane and Rikishi) Maybe so, but the star power for those 5 in 2001 could carry that field. When you've got six men in the Rumble announced, and only two of them could be described as main eventers and the other four are solidly midcard, that's not so good.

Just checking the pulse of the FAN nation here. After this show, are people going to check out until Wrestlemania? Probably. The Rumble is my favorite match concept is usually enjoyable, but who even knows what will happen between now and WrestleMania. Wouldn’t be surprised if the sale is announced at or shortly before WrestleMania now that I think about it.

I mean, 2001's the only for sure ins we had were the 5 the video package covered IIRC (Austin, Rock, Taker, Kane and Rikishi) That's not true. In 2001 we knew 25 of the 30 entrants on the Smackdown before the PPV, and 26 (Drew Carey) before the match started. The four we didn't know were Al Snow, Honky Tonk Man, Big Show and Haku. And iirc we sort of were hinted heavily to expect Al Snow would be back for revenge on Raven. I know this because I had the list of competitors in front of me in 2001, and was crossing off the competitors as they entered the match so I could try and guess who was next! This led to the point where Taker and Kane had cleared the ring and the options left were: Stone Cold, Rikishi (known to be 3), "a surprise entrant you'll never guess" (TM friend who saw it live at 4am), Billy Gunn and Scotty 2 Hotty. And at that moment, as the count went down, I said to my sister, "If I wrote this, Scotty 2 Hotty would be next for the hilarity." AND THEN HE WAS! It was glorious. 2012 had a very low number of known entrants - Ziggler, R-Truth, Cody, Foley, Santino, Kofi, Sheamus, Swagger, Wade, Otunga, Orton and Jericho the only known names, give or take 1 or 2 others. This led the internet to think "Rock? HHH? HBK?" instead of "Ricardo? Jey Uso? Michael Cole?" 2006 announced everyone in the match (my sister had to text me the list of all 30 on a 2006 mobile phone!) and that was weird because Tatanka was on the official list, yet when he came out, it was treated like a surprise entry!

Thanks to Wiki keeping everything, a list of every Rumble's announced field the day of the PPV since 2005!
2005 - 29/30 announced, the missing spot is Kurt Angle so they didn't announce Nunzio ahead of that segment.
2006 - 27/30 announced - no Tatanka (curious - how did my non-fan sister know about him before the PPV?), Eugene, Goldust (or those two, for that matter).
2007 - all 30 announced

Well, I suppose the question is how many should be announced beforehand? There’s no real pattern one way or the other looking at all that, but I guess the usual sweet spot is high 10s-mid 20s?
There’s some crazy-ass outliers though. 2012 and 2020 women’s are nuts.

If you've got Austin, Rock, Angle, Bray Wyatt on a jetpack etc lined up, it makes sense to keep them quiet for the big show. If you just can't be bothered to announce Curt Hawkins or Hunico, though... And more pertinently, f***s with people who still like to get the whole list out and cross folk off as they appear! Or to be less vague, over 20 but not the full 30 gives folk some mystery. Under 10 looks like you've half assed the Rumble. imo.

Man this gave me flashbacks to the 2014 Rumble when #29 came out going over all the possible entrants to see if Daniel Bryan would be #30, only to remember just as the countdown started that Rey Mysterio had cut a promo earlier in the night about how he was going to win the Rumble and realising that **** was going to hit the fan.

I want a legit clown car to roll out and like 40 Doinks invade the ring and just keep coming and coming until they're all dispatched.

As we're just 2 weeks away, I've been looking at the betting markets for each Rumble, because while the odds only occasionally hint to the right winner, they're generally there or thereabouts within the shortest 4/5 options.
Current favourite for the men's rumble is Cody who is so much crazily shorter (at Evens) than the rest of the field (Sami 15/8, Dwayne 2/1, Seth 12/1) that there's no real sign of a value pick for this one. It feels set in stone.
Meanwhile for the women's the market feels slight more open with the favourites suggesting Rhea (5/4), Becky (2/1) or Raquel (7/1), and I dunno if I can see the eventual 2023 winner within any of those?
Anyone wishing to take slightly more of a punt can get Bayley at 10/1; that's where my money will likely be going.

If Ziggler is in the Rumble, it will be his 15th Rumble in a row.. He already broke Kanes record of consistent Rumbles last year. For the longest time he was sharing the record with Kofi but when he ended up not being in the 2001 Rumble it became Zigglers record exclusively.
If he doesn't end up being in this Rumble then Corbin becomes the guy with the most consecutive Rumbles as this would be his 7th Rumble in a row.

Is Brock coming back or is he there for no reason? It’s not been announced but he was essentially written off by a Lashley post-match attack so I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back and they eliminate each other at the Rumble.

Prediction: Liv and Becky as the final two, Liv wins.
I'll proudly quote this post when it has all happened. 👊
