Omega's post-match demeaner should be studied by everybody. That's how you're supposed to act after going over someone in a hard fought match that helps keep the other guy stay strong. He won, but Kenny looked like he was about to collapse and die at any point. for all the talks about storytelling ,Omega is the best storyteller in wrestling. That whole finish and aftermatch was amazing

I’m guessing if/when The Elite win the Trios Titles, their next feud will be with the United Empire. They seemed to be going that route until the suspensions happened.

Man that match was awesome. Loved the entrances, the brutal spots, the storytelling...everything. It's beautiful.

Big MVP of that match: Ospreay's selling. By far his best ever and really held this match together from going full parody of epic main-events it could've easily gone to.

Omega having his body back is simply insane. Comparing him to before his injured leave, he looks almost superhuman once he gets moving in the ring.

Kenny was going through a lot by his own account, pre-surgery. The acceleration in pace, crispness, physique, strength has all been noticeable the last few weeks on AEW. I honestly hope he doesn’t go too hard out of worry but instances like this match just make me shrug. He’s Fricken incredible. Also, I dunno why, but Kenny just comes off “right” and cooler in New Japan rather than any other place I’ve seen him wrestle. And I don’t know why that is.

Meltzer gave it 6.25 stars
Ospreay is now tied with Misawa for the most 5 star or above matches ever. He is only 29 years old!
I just about screamed when Ospreay went into the turnbuckle a second time jaw first.

6.25 for act 1? He's not left anywhere to go, the final entry in this series is going to be the first 12* match.

Great match. I've read Meltzer for years, too, and appreciate him. But the star scale means nothing at this point, when 5 is supposed to be "a perfect match." The whole breaking the scale because a match is better than other perfect matches thing is just silly to me. But yeah, it was a great match, no matter who assigns how many stars to it. He gave his first higher than 5 star match in the '80s, so it's best not to take it too literally. Anything higher than 5 is still basically 5.

Haven’t seen the match but the press conference and post conference from Ospreay was just pure magic.

I kind of like the absolute absurdity of the rating scale at this point. "You did so well on your test I'm giving you a score of 130%."

Little known fact, the rating scale has always been out of 10, Dave just has absurdly high standards.

I was blown away by the match, absolutely superlative work and storytelling and clearly working as an Act I for the larger story this will tell.
Oh, and here ya go:

If I’m not mistaken the 6.25 would be the highest rated match in Tokyo Dome history.
Both Okada/Omega matches that got over 6 happened at Dominion in Osaka-jo Hall.
Also Ospreay is tied with Misawa for most 5 star or higher matches ever.
…
He’s 29.

There's nothing I can add that hasn't already been stated in this thread already so I'll simply say AWESOME! For anyone who's yet to see it please check it out.

I was looking forward to this match the most, and it exceeded my expectations. Brutal, hard to watch at times, and amazing selling from both men. The psychology in this match is off the charts, and their styles compliment each other so well.
Then you add the post match scrum stuff, and it's just an addition to some brilliant storytelling.
Ospreay is breaking down in tears, he lost, he feels lost, and after everything he sacrificed it wasn't enough. One more year he says....one more year.
Omega is victorious, cocky, but is selling that he went through hell. He won, but it wasn't easy, but he still gets to say "I told you so" and gloat.
From the stuff on Dynamite, to this match, to the post match, this is my favorite storyline in wrestling right now.
I don't like Ospreay personally, but if they do this right his redemption arc could be amazing, and I'd be all in on it.

I finally watched the whole thing, and yeah, incredible. Quintessential “The Best” Versus “The Guy who WILL be the Best”. It never felt feigned that this was a “passing of the torch” type match. Felt absolute legitimate.
MVP has to be Ospreay’s selling, IMO. Besides both men’s ungodly athleticism (and I’m curious who people enjoy more, in-ring, cause they’re so got-damn good). Really curious about the swollen eye-kick. Like, was it planned? Regardless, I loved how Kenny added an extra “umph” to his offense after that.
The two most beautiful shots were Ospreay reaching out to something/someone when Kenny suddenly knees him in the back. And that last shot of the two looking at one another after the match. The utter heartbreak Ospreay possessed. Can’t look good in defeat mah buht.
Really makes me wonder what Kenny’s legacy will be when it’s all said and done. And anyway, can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.

Yeahhh and that was part of what made me wonder about his legacy? Lol…unless you’re a sad character-actor “purist”, it’s easy to see Kenny’s been in an upper echelon for years now. But he won’t be remembered as a promo or character guy, and his in-ring work is bizarrely polarized..I’m sure we’ve got 10, give it take, more years of him, but it’s hard not be in awe in witnessing the dude in his prime (2nd prime?? Lol).
