Seaquest Season 1 was so baller. I loved that show. I had totally forgotten about it for the past 20 years. Thanks for the reminder!

One could argue CWs Flash. After season 1 the quality dipped further and further down

Never should have gone more than one season. Season 2 was still decent enough to me, as it directly followed the events of season 1, but when they finally did away with Hannah playing a role in the events, it stopped being Thirteen Reasons Why. The third season being about Bryce's murder was OK, but season 4 is unwatchable to me, even though I want to go watch the final episode for the feels.

Probably not too fair since it got cancelled after 3 Seasons, but Jessica Jones S1 was way ahead of the other two.

Airwolf, Bellsario's only season as full hands-on showrunner, it was an uphill battle, but ultimately he caved and bowed out mid-season two.

Not going to be the case for everybody, since plenty of people love the later seasons, but Legend of Korra fits for me. None of the subsequent villains did as much for me as Amon did, and a lot of the details of the world were more charming for me early on, and so much of it gets shoved aside for a grander scale. Wasn't really my thing as much anymore. Gundam 00 is probably near-universally in this boat. I think it may have been the first mainline Gundam series to have multiple seasons and not be one continuous show, so some learning curve is to be expected. Still, many prefer the original season a great deal. I think it's stronger than season 2, but that they are closer than many think they are, for me. Iron Blooded Orphans, on the other hand... definitely loses a lot in its second season. It's been awhile since I saw 00, but I don't remember that big a time skip between seasons. Though it is funny that the namesake Gundam didn't even appear until the second season. I probably liked S2 of 00 more than most, but yeah S1 was better. Season 1 felt like a mix of the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Wing, while S2 basically re-enacted Zeta with 00's cast.

Killing Eve had a good first series but the second was poor. It may have improved after series two but I’d already tapped and couldn’t be arsed to go back. I don’t think the second series of True Detective deserves the hatred it gets, as I think it’s a perfectly watchable series but I won’t deny that the drop in quality from the first series was there to see. True Detective has to be the poster child for this thread. The first season was just so strong, nothing in the later seasons could compare, regardless of their quality.

Iron Blooded Orphans, on the other hand... definitely loses a lot in its second season. It is kinda the MO for Sunrise produced mecha anime after Code Geass: if it's Gundam, awesome first season, second one not as good; if it's not Gundam, it probably sucks because it's trying everything to not be Gundam instead of being a good show. So... I'll add Prison Break to the pile. Loved the first season, everything after that was either ok or meh by comparison or a worse retread of S1 material.

In hindsight, Season 1 of 24 is probably the best one. I think it played with the "one bad day" concept better than the other seasons. The plot was also relatively lacking in sensationalism, absurdity, and jingoist fantasy porn compared to later seasons.

Does half seasons count because Sword Art Online totally peaked after the first arc. The Alfhiem stuff and beyond just didn't match up to the stakes of that first arc.

I was waiting for someone to say Twin Peaks because I don’t believe it’s true anymore. It was true for a quarter of a century….and then we got The Return. I’d vote for it to be #1 with a bullet.

I thought of Peaks also, but I personally like the first few and last few episodes of Season 2 better than Season 1. Of course The Return is in a league of its own.
