If we're not counting the Miss Bliss season, then I'd say Saved by the Bell. The first season was about Zack and his sidekick Screech scamming the school, showing up the rival, and winning the girl, with a lot of wacky plots and surreal humor. As the series continued it tried too hard to be taken seriously and turned into a weird tween version of 90210. Although I guess that being a drop in quality is open to interpretation as that's also its most memeable stuff.

I asked my wifes opinion. She said The Good Place, Desperate Housewives, Once Upon A Time, Eureka, Warehouse 13, and some others I forget. I never watched Once Upon A Time, but I remember tons of people talking about it initially and then.... it seemed like nothing and it lasted like 4 seasons or something didn't it?

Other than my wife the only person I know who watched it was a cashier at one of my client stores. Just like my wife I introduced her to Fables which she enjoyed much more.

Did the Death Note anime have seasons or was it simply one solid block of 37 episodes? If it did, then the first half was a lot better than the second.

Dexter. Fourth season was the only.one that came close. And it gets a boost because of how bad the second and third were. Everyone’s mileage varies. The first parallels the first book, which I think it might be superior to. After that, the book series is abandoned (which is kind of a shame at least as far as the second book goes, but beyond that it starts getting supernatural and weird). I thought the second season was still good, but I don’t know if shadowing the second book would not have been better. The 3rd season has its moments but is generally weak. Sadly, the side quest villains were more interesting than the overall story. The fourth was very good. Trinity was a great villain, Lundy returning was welcome. All of the side stories worked. After that you start getting diminished returns. The good of the 5th season? I liked the addition of Lumen. The basic idea of the villain group was great. The execution? Not as much. The 6th season was…well, it was a thing. Honestly, had Colin Hanks’ character been introduced in a previous season as someone with the possibility of becoming a monster or someone who directs his impulses like Dexter, but Dexter passed on mentoring him because he had Lumen already and Jimmy Smitts’ character had left a bad taste in his mouth, it probably would have significantly improved the story. That way Dexter created his own enemy through negligence. Oh, and no crushes on adopted siblings please. The show was on Showtime, not Xvideos. The 7th explored a lot of interesting things. It could have done it better. The 8th? I stopped watching halfway through. It was the drizzling shits.

There was never an actual production / airing break so it doesn't seem like it's really more than just an unusually long single season, though you can definitely draw the line at episode 26 as being the end of the especially good part. Though really I think you could argue the actual dip in quality happens at episode 15 when the memory stuff starts happening, and maybe even as early as 12 when they first really introduce Misa.

Agree that the first season is better than the first book. Really just the show in general is better than the books IMO. Liked the 4th season but I still think it was nowhere near as good as the first. Topic is shows that peaked in the first not shows that only had a good first after all.

I tried sticking through it too, but started tapping out around season 5-6. Didn't see the Cast Exodus Last Season. I mention OUAT in my picks earlier in the thread. (Page 2)

Riverdale.
Excellent first season, unwatchable garbage starting with season 2.

The two I would have gone with have already been mentioned. Frank Darabont's TWD was great. After he left, the show leaned on the Rick/Shane/Lori triangle, which was good. But after that, the show got just geniunely bad and tiresome to watch. But somehow was as the same time becoming a rating juggernaut. Thankfully, people wised up to just bad writing and they ended up on a gigantic ratings slide. And LOST just kicked the can down the road on answers. The first season was great, even down to the website easter egg puzzles. After that, it felt a little bit like The Office episode where Michael promises them a big surprise and has no idea what it is. "Community" never came close to being as good as it was in the first season. Season two was fine but you could start seeing the fissures. In season three, those fissures became cracks. By season four, the whole dam broke, continuing into that ghastly fifth season and a sixth season that was so bad, it almost singlehandedly killed Yahoo Screen. I don't know season 2 is damn amazing too. 3 is a step down , 4 is a joke. The last two weren't bad but they had a lack of market ,they sef were overpaid as yahoo screen was far from taking off and it was different from the first 3 for sure. It was never going ti succeed even if it was the best season I always thought the consensus was that Season 2 was better than Season 1.

The Witcher, what we got for the first series was way better than whatever the hell they gave us for the second.

Witcher S2 went off the rails. No wonder why Henry Cavill left the show.

Ehhh, I am fine with the Light losing his memory portion of the story since you could still keep the intensity It went left after L was killed and you had to contend with Near/Mello who beat Light out the luck of their ass

Freaks and geeks Square Pegs I'm walking into WHOOSH territory, but they each only had one season. Want an anti-drug PSA? We could have had Square Pegs Season 2 had cast members not gotten high on set.

You can make an argument for V The series. Only one season but it came in the wake of programming (granted, a mini series) far superior.
Of course, a first season have to be good to peak.

We could have had Square Pegs Season 2 had cast members not gotten high on set. That was teh joke. Odds of F&G second season being as good are so low. Always heard it was low ratings and high cost plus the drug use that got Square Pegs canned. It's one I barely saw when it originally aired. But then what USA reran it often. And now feels like every Dollar General has a copy of the dvd set for 5 bucks.

Pokemon? After indigo and the OG 151, I couldn't keep up and moved on from the fad culture it achieved in the late 90's/early 2000's.
