You're now thinking about how, inbetween the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania 30, Batista had a stopgap feud with Alberto Del Rio where Batista was so hated that Del Rio at the peak of the Del Rio pop was actually getting a reaction again. I think this was a whole PPV match too?

Not only did they feud, they went 50/50 with it where Del Rio got his win back the next night on RAW. If my memory serves me correctly, it was done to help facilitate the new direction with Batista going heel.

Need a DVD of random ass matches like this and Sting vs. The Big Show that went like 4 seconds in 2015

Alberto, as his career went, doesn't really exist to me at all anymore. It's all been replaced by my headcanon that whenever he snorts coke, he gains the power to pull knives out of his flesh and immediately tries to start fights with the first person he sees.

Batista's 2014 run is interesting in the sense it seems it was meant to go on a lot longer but everyone apparently agreed to just leave it.

There were people back then that would say Del Rio was one of the best in-ring performers in the world. And they were serious, not gimmick posters or trolls, they truly believed it.
So at least they weren't confused by this fued.

So at least they weren't confused by this fued. Most people's problems with Del Rio was repetitive booking and him being a charisma vacuum. I don't think anyone had much issue with his in ring work. IDK about being one of the best in the world but he was definitely a talented wrestler and I would say probably in the top five in the company around that time. I think with him turning out to be a POS that people now say he was just completely useless and that probably just revisionist history as I think his in ring work was good despite him really having nothing else and being super uninteresting. If they booked him more on a midcard level instead of trying to force him as a main eventer and I don't know actually tried different and interesting things with him instead of beating the same carousel of midcarders for months (Kofi, Ryder, Tyson Kidd, Justin Gabriel etc.) and feuding with someone not named Sheamus then I don't think he would've been as hated as he was around these parts at the time.

What I find so fascinating about the guy is that despite being champ and constantly in the main event and him being the main focus of so many hours of TV... you can easily tell the story of 2010-2015ish WWE while omitting him completely and you wouldn't miss a beat. And it's not like the WWE tried to scrub his existence like Benoit. Dude was just that forgettable and uninteresting. He couldn't elevate a ham sandwich.

Del Rio felt really out of place when he turned back heel.

Lol he cashed in on Punk after he just got hot at the second biggest event of the year, was the guy who lost the belt to Punk before his 434 day reign, and was the guy who beat Cena clean for the US title before he started going on a more part time roll and he is STILL forgettable 😂😂😂

Del Rio is the Avatar (movie not Al Snow) of WWE. So much money invested, so many accolades, decent wrestler and some good matches but zero cultural footprint or memorable moments.

See but that comparison fails because Avatar literally made a shit ton of money and put butts in seats worldwide. (TWICE) Del Rio is like the John Carter of wrestlers

I remember a Raw when Del Rio beat Sami Zayn, which was then followed by a Charlotte promo.
Brutal.

Imo Del Rio's best and most memorable moment was the double turn with Ziggler.

Imo Del Rio's best and most memorable moment was the double turn with Ziggler. I think this is the best moment for both of them, frankly
