I hope that the topic title is clear enough. This is something I had thought of. This could apply to any form of media, whether it's a VHS/DVD, music like CDs or records, video games, etc. I will start with this: I remember when I got "The Mask" on video back in 1995 and seeing the preview for that "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" bit and was intrigued. I also remember watching it after the movie from time to time, because why not? I later found out that it wasn't included in the DVD/Blu Ray releases of "The Mask." It's also not on DVD releases of "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast." Here is another example: Way back when in 2000 or 2001, I remember trying to find a VHS for "Original Gangstas." There was a more common release that had the "Soul Cinema" imprint on it that was released by MGM/UA, but this one I think went out of print after a year. It has music videos on the VHS for songs on the soundtrack. That was kind of thing during that time that some home video releases had music videos or cartoon shorts in front of the movie. One of the "Sister Act" movies had a music video before the movie. I'm not sure if it's on the DVD releases, though. "Armageddon" had the Criterion Collection version that not only had extras but was also an extended cut of the film. As for music, I've been trying to track down Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" that has two extra tracks from the original pressing. The songs are "G'z Up, Hoes Down" and "Tha Next Episode," not to be confused with the song on Dre's "2001" album. It seems that it's super rare, but "G'z Up, Hoes Down" was released on some Death Row Records compilation. Any other examples like this? I could also mention video games like "Ninja Gaiden: Black" and "Shenmue II" for the Xbox because I had heard they had some features that were exclusive to those releases.

There's a 2000 out of print DVD for This is Spinal Tap with commentary by the main three cast members which I don't think has been included on subsequent releases. There's in character commentary with Guest, McKean, & Shearer in character that's been included a bunch of times, but on the original.

There are plenty of TV versions of movies that have various deleted scenes added into them, that for some reason have never been included in subsequent VHS/DVD/Bluray editions. It's the strangest thing.

It's the strangest thing. David Lynch hated the TV version of "Dune", which had a ton of stuff cut and other stuff added in, so much that he had his name removed from it and replaced with Alan Smithee.

IIRC, there was a limited time release of FF7 that came with a demo disc for FF Tactics.

Did the original VHS version of Gremlins 2 with John Wayne instead of Hulk Hogan show up anywhere else?

And Alan Smithee is the industry standard name to use whenever the director's actual name isn't used.

I had heard that Lynch was more upset about not having the "final cut" of Dune and having to compromise with the producers, cutting it from the 3-hour cut he wanted down to 2... then throwing in cutting room floor stuff to pad it our to 4 hours without asking his input. And 'officially' the Director's Guild retired the Alan Smithee name in 2000 (although it comes up once in a while as a gag)... wonder what name they use now? Ever read any Cordwainer Bird stories?

On the subject of video games, it seems that the original PS2 version of GTA Vice City had content that wasn't found in subsequent releases. Examples include uncut dialogue regarding the Cuban/Haitian storyline, among other things. That version also has "Running with the Night" by Lionel Richie but then it was removed in subsequent releases.
Also, the PS2 release "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater," as well as "Subsistence," had that "Snake vs. Monkey" mini-game. That was removed from the HD Collection. Because Sony owns "Ape Escape," I think it should have been in the PS3 version.
While on the subject of Metal Gear, the PS2 version of "Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance" had that skateboarding mini-game from "Evolution Skateboarding." It wasn't in the HD Collection.

Mega Man 8 was originally released for the Sega Saturn & the Sony Playstation. The Saturn version had some extra levels not in the PS1 version, also those levels aren't in any of the rereleases of Mega Man 8 that were included in subsequent Megaman anthology collections.

The version of Super Mario World that was included in Super Mario All-Star + Super Mario World had different sprites for Luigi making him look less of a mario clone in that game. That collection has a couple other different too. Yoshi being part of the opening scenes and giving SMW more save file instead of just 3.

Mass Effect's Pinnacle Station DLC was released only for Xbox and Windows. By the time the game was ported to PS3 the source code had become corrupted, and reverse engineering from the existing versions was seen as a waste of time and money.

There is a remix of Public Image LTD song “The Order of Death” featuring sound bites from The Blair Witch Project.
I think it was only released as a promotional things cause this version of the song has not appeared on any official release from the band, or soundtrack to the movie.
It got decent airplay on Australia’s Triple J radio.. enough that it was voted into the 1999 Hottest 100
It can be heard in youtube

I mention it all the time but feel like I’m insane, the TV of Naked Gun 33 1/3 features a metric shit ton of scenes not seen on the VHS or DVD. The plot remains but the set pieces are entirely different.

Now that I think about it. As bad as this movie is, was the theatrical cut of "Rollerball" (2002) ever released on home video? All the releases I have seen were the R-rated cut.
Also, I think the original VHS of "The Santa Clause" has the "1-800-SPANK-ME" line.

The UK He-Man season one box set has commentary tracks that aren't present on the U.S version.

The DVD release of the 2004 Punisher movie (the one with Thomas Jane, John Travolta and Kevin Nash) is the only version to have the Extended Cut, which adds 20 minutes of footage and a new plotline involving Frank's corrupt cop friend.

There is a handful of James Bond films where the laserdisc releases have commentaries not on anything else.
The Brady Bunch movie has a small scene where the neighbor tries to infect the Brady house with termites. This messes up and they get into the neigbors house. Which ccauses his toilet to fall thru the floor. NOw this scene is only on some tv airings of the film.
But in the theatrical cut ,which is what on every home video verison, when the Bradys are at the mall singing you look and there is the neighbor wearing a neckbrace and carrying a toilet thru the mall.
Has the director's cut of The Abyss ever made it past Laserdisc? I know the film isn't on Blu Ray at all.
Revenge of the nerds has a small scene that was only in the theatrical and first vhs releases. When Louis finds the house the Lambdas buy and fix up. There is a short scene that got cut,he picks up the for sale sign and walks away with it. The scene got cut cause on the sign was a legit phone number not a 555 number.
Mulholland Drive has something blurred out after it's theatrical release. Laura Herring had no clue that a part of her body was visable while filming. So all home video releases of the film have a slight blur to one scene.
