You know how in movies humans go into space and find the ruins of ancient alien civilizations?
In reality we're probably that ancient civilization, we're the early ones in the likely timeline of the universe, the meet-ups will come later.

Interplanetary travel is nothing new in the Star Wars universe and they still didn't know about the Yuuzhan Vong until it was too late.

I think with a reasonable amount of time and resources, it would be plausible for us to search the galaxy and find something. However, intelligent life? That's a whole other story. I feel humans are so far beyond unique that the amount of 'luck' it took for us to advance to this point is beyond immeasurable. That isn't to say that intelligent life does not exist elsewhere, but the occurrence in which it happens is in like the decillions. While I would agree with you, I also find it highly depressing that in this whole universe we could actually be the ultimate living thing It would be better than the alternative. Our history books generally do not paint a pretty picture when an advanced society with bigger guns meets an isolated one.
