They didn't replace anyone, but the additions of Frank to Always Sunny and Jeff to American Dad made both shows better. And Spike to Buffy too.

I know we only got two films with Richard Harris but Michael Gambon was better as Dumbledore.
I love Chris Morris but Matt Berry replacing him as the boss in The IT Crowd made the show better.
Dan Castellaneta replacing whoever it was who did Homer’s weird voice in the early Simpsons episodes. (I know).

Craig Ferguson's Mr. Wick replacing Kevin Pollak's Mr. Bell on the Drew Carey Show. As a bonus, it introduced the US to Ferguson!

Craig Ferguson's Mr. Wick replacing Kevin Pollak's Mr. Bell on the Drew Carey Show. As a bonus, it introduced the US to Ferguson! It worked to the point that I, a big fan of the Drew Carey show and Kevin Pollak in particular, have ZERO recollection of Kevin Pollak being on that show. I always just assume Mr. Wick was always the boss.

I always just assume Mr. Wick was always the boss. If I remember correctly Pollak only physically appeared as Mr. Bell in one episode, his final one where he was fired. The rest of the time he was simply an unseen voice over an intercom. This was also during season one, where they were still experimenting and a lot of weird stuff happened that didn't really carry over to the rest of the series, like Drew's season one girlfriend Lisa, or his hillbilly neighbors, so it's easy to forget.

Harry Shearer replacing Christopher Collins as the voice of Mr. Burns.
Also, Disney losing the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and replacing him with what was essentially Oswald in a mouse suit seems to have worked out pretty well.

Mauser was a great replacement for Harris for the two movies he lasted. Nick Lassard replacing Mahoney not so much.

There's kind of a reason no one talks about the super early seasons of Law & Order and it's because while McCoy is a deeply flawed character who's often extremely unlikable he's way the hell more interesting to watch than the plank of wood with eyes on it that is Ben Stone.

Replacing Jeffrey Hunter's Christopher Pike with William Shatner's James Kirk in Star Trek.

Say what you want about the backstage drama, or the quality of the show itself (especially after Season 5), but bringing in Rose McGowan as Paige to replace Shannen Doherty's Prue was an inspired choice.

Mauser also introduced Proctor, who in turn was a replacement to Blanks and Copeland as the sniveling suck up cop who dances at the Blue Oyster Lounge. I don't mind Nick, but you just can't replace Steve Guttenberg with anybody.

Honestly for a show as lazy and uninspired as Charmed usually was, not just going, "Oh, Prue was transformed to look different due to a spell," or something and instead using the show's existing mythology to introduce a new character with new dynamics behind her was very uncharacteristic of them. ... Especially since the comics eventually did the, "Prue was transformed to look different," thing anyway.
