I'm giving it a shot out of morbid curiosity. Yes, in real life at this very moment both Todd and his wife are in separate prisons.
The episode opened with a "this season on Chrisley Knows Best" and didn't show any reference to their legal troubles. They teased the police pulling over the grandma and her saying "I've never been to jail."
I'm not someone who hate watches things, but curiosity got the best of me.
It's really weird as Todd and his wife mention having to move homes four times in the past month (but not why) and they both just look stressed and exhausted. Him saying things like wanting to "make memories with {his} family" takes on such a different tone and vibe knowing the ugly truth.
The scenes with their adult children are just really sad as they're these bad actors dealing with the reality that both their parents might/will go to prison (depending when these were filmed) and they have to just keep making this show that's always looked like a parody fake-reality show you'd see on a TV in another show.
If anyone regularly watches this, I promise I won't judge you or come at you with hate, but please let me know - have they referenced the legal issues in the earlier seasons? If not, is the tone of this episode as markedly unsettlingly in denial as I feel it is?

Yo, the "Mom, how are you really feeling"/"I have not seen her this upset in a really long time" is one of the weirdest bits of television I've ever seen.
The plot of the episode is that Todd is having their new home completely gutted and renovated without telling his wife so they have nowhere to stay - so we get this scene the kids talk to their mom about how their dad "has done it again" and "Really done it this time." Everything they say could apply to their actual legal woes and it feels like there's such a tragic rawness under the sheen of a reality show aesthetic bandage.
This looks like living hell. Having to go ahead with your dad's dumb reality show after he's f***ed over your family and countless others. It's a perverse level of despair as entertainment.
It's either the most unfortunately coincidental editing or they know what they're doing and are thinking they're self-aware but on a deeper level beyond unaware of the strange gravity.
And the stock footage of clouds moving and rising and setting suns between scenes - it's just so uncanny valley. This show has been on ten years so I get that they have a formula, but for real life to be crashing with them in such a way and just not acknowledging it in favor of the clearly-stage "Reality show problems" - there's a different level of disturbing at play here.
My DVR cut off when Todd and his wife were going back and forth in the car as their kids eaves-dropped via their dad not hanging up his phone all the way, so I didn't see the resolution, but it's probably for the best.
Frontrunner for most disturbing show of 2023.

I guess I've never understood how this guy got famous enough to have a reality show in the first place, let alone how it's STILL on the air, what with him, you know, actively being a convicted criminal now.

The first part, I think the producer just knew him and thought he could make a marketable reality show with that family. For being still on the air, a cold calculation of cost to produce and ratings.

I hope the last episode is basically a "Behind the Music" style one that's just brutally exposing of the entire sham

USA still promoting this show is seriously one of the most insane things happening on TV right now. I just want them to be watching prison escape movies for a whole episode with no explanation.

USA still promoting this show is seriously one of the most insane things happening on TV right now. And it's successful. The show was #15 for the night on Monday.

The success of Todd Chrisley's reality show has always confused me. At least the Kardashians have being attractive going for them.

Alright, second episode of the most uncomfortable show on television is starting. How many seasons did they film? They got half-way through season ten.

Todd's wife looks like she's ready to start crying at any moment and their son now has one of those stress-beards.
His wife is all "this is not how I expected to kick off the last year of my 40s" and there's such a quiet but audible desperation in her voice. Having it juxtaposed with the happy quirky strings of the upbeat reality show music adds to the fragile nightmare of it all.

Not too much weirdness tonight beyond Todd's wife being really stern with the kids about how to take care of their siblings while she's away for her birthday. It's also notable how the tension isn't as much playful family teasing when it comes to Todd. Overall I feel bad for Todd's mother having to watch her son and the family go along with this painful charade and it seems like she's trying to make the best of it.

I want to start a poll about which show following a flag ship show is more distasteful. Chrisley, Slap fight or the 10 o'clock local news but don't know which section to put it in

Alright, I missed last week but holy shit are we off to the races.
Todd's wife's father, who is a preacher, is excited because Todd purchased a 1960 Corvette.
Todd's son and Grandmother are having a bubble gum blowing contest while Todd's daughter is shooting a fashion video.
Todd's son is in the backyard and tells his dad to appreciate the backyard and "take in the hot tub" and Todd says "I actually paid for it."
Todd's son had completed 50% of his real estate exam and Todd's brow-beating him for procrastinating on taking the last 50%. Todd being mad at his son for not paying bills and having his dad pay them is hilarious considering he's in prison for not paying money he owes.
There is a LOT of flashbacks so far from stuff done over the past years, feels like filler.
UH-OH, Todd's wife's dad wants a turn driving Todd's car and Todd does not like that. They're also fighting over the gender of the car.
Remember that gag on the Simpsons about ways to save money and Lisa rolling all the tiny soap slivers together into a big soap ball? It feels like that's how they made this episode. I have no idea how many completed episodes they still have left to go. This is bonkers.
